Amnesty in a 50/50 gamble politics.
Whether Ethiopian Federal high court finds the defendants guilty of crime or not is immaterial to Amnesty International because it has already considered them prisoners of conscience. According to BBC ('Absurd' Ethiopia charges slammed), “Amnesty said the trial was a test of the independence of Ethiopia's judges.”
From here one can conclude that if the court finds the defendants guilty of crime, the Amnesty will say the court is not independent. Where as, if the court finds them not guilty, the Amnesty will say the court is independent. This is a 50/50 gamble politics in the part of Amnesty.
It looks like to me that the Ethiopian Government should and ought to tell vigorously the Amnesty International to shut it’s mouth and do mind its business as it is meddling in Ethiopian judiciary system.
