The Long Hard Slog Toward Democratization
VOA interview, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Donald Yamamoto
  • Yamamoto states that a political Dynamics not seen in any other African country exists in Ethiopia. What US wants to see is forward progress.
  • Assures residents along the border that their views and wishes will be taken into consideration. US wants demarcation that brings lasting peace.
  • Comment: The Voa's interviewer's questions are echos of the views of the opposition which participated in the election to settle old score in the first place, and now wants to keep democracy hostage by its Self-fulfilling prophesy of unrest to engage the country in endless election saga, - an impasse- as the interviewer said.

Ethiopia has shown that there is no impasse. Despite neo-Dergist's prayer ,Ethiopia is witnessing political dynamism not seen in other African countries, as witnessed by Yamamoto. The loyal opposition is engaged in dialogue. Parliamentary and Media law are being crafted to be up to international standard.

Ethiopia is attempting to pull it self away from the neo-dergist, backward looking evil spirit(Looking back at hard talk interview, it is amazing how retarded is their concept of democracy), the anarchists who despise civil parliamentary discourse and setup what matters the most - democratic institutions. US's understanding of this effort and its help is greatly appreciated.

    Reporter Editorial
Comment:The last election is text book example of the damage done to the ruling party by the fact that the information Minster acted as representative of the government and the party. Not only was there conflict of interest but also the opposition was able to manipulate this inherently opposing tasks of the ministry to their advantage. The opposition were doing all type of political tricks while demanding Bereket to make sure the government live up to its motto of "clean election." Modern politics is smart politics. Will it be wrong to assume that there is at least on smart person in the ruling party to see the damage and heed the advice?
