Breakthrough in Seattle
A high level Ethiopian delegation led by His Excellency Mr. Addisu Legesse, Vice-Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and His Excellency Mr. Ayalew Gobeze, President of the Amhara Regional state completed a two day visit in Seattle on August 26, 2006... The Seattle event has set a new precedent where the silent majority has emerged to speak for itself. This will undoubtedly reverberate where individuals will independently think and through inquiry arrive at the truth.
FYI : Memorandom
of understanding for the formation of the CUD for election.
Comment: The
four point proposal of Ethiopian Review practically asking
Lidetu's surrender after an interview of Lidetu, in which
the young revolutionary leader of EUDP-Madhin debunked all
outstanding issues, is testimony to the fact that what the
opposition wants is another zombie that orbits in the blind
camp of hate politics. The extremist in the opposition doesn’t
get Lidetu, and they don’t deserve Lidetu. |

Correspondence Letters
Between General Eqube Abraha and Esayas Afewerke
From Our Mail Bag
The correspondence letters were taken from Keste Debena, a Tigrinya publication that was legally sanctioned to exist in Eritrea but no more.
It is from its issue of 27 June 2001. On this particualr issue Keste Debena carried a detailed interview with the late General, Eqube Abraha. The General raised many fundamental democratic issue in Eritrea with president Isayas Afeworki. President Isayas ignoring the general's plea incarcerated him and eventually caused his death in prison. The country since then has seen worse and from the looks of it the end is not insight. Asmara as one recent traveler described it has turned to be a camp for ex-degre and OLF sympathizers while Eritreans who fought for over thirty years for freedom and happiness are in the dungeons of Era-Irro and fox holes of Sahel and Tesene! Gud eyu!

It
was Never this Clear in Ethiopian Politics
Source: Addis Fortune
Comment: Fortune
and their rebels without cause.
The contradiction facing the opposition and their
"democratic" sympathizers is that they want to be play
in the multi-party system as the same time view their leaders
as Freedom fighters. It is repugnant that people who were either
out of politics or supporters of the Dergue regime with lame excuses
such as "for or children sake" or due to "Kofen",
when their Revolutionary Democrats raise arms in their young age,
are saying Akake Zeraf, Man' Kalegna Netsa Awche, making mockery
of those who have tested the bitter pill of the 'evil dergue regime".
Ethiopia is no communist Russia but a country on the path to democratization,
no matter how imperfect. The Fortunes can't have their multi-party
politicians, running on center-left and center-right positions
and at the same time be "Freedom fighters" from "repressive,
undemocratic regime". It would be fool me twice shame on
me, if the government is "naive" enough to think that
dergist and EPRP cultist are partners for democracy. Democracy
comes with responsibility, respect for the institutions and the
rule of the game.

Fracas in Diaspora CUD
The meeting of the so called Extraordinary General
Assembly of Diaspora CUD ended up with out mending the relation
between the so called the international leadership and the local
support Groups. The acrimonious meeting was said to be highly charged
with exchange of strong words, snatching of the microphone from
each other , walk-outs and resignations. The Extreme Diaspora, which
is instrumental in spoiling the democratic efforts in Ethiopia,
spent a day and half arguing not about the AFD, an alliance that
is formed with separatist forces such as the ONLF, nor the democratic
path in Ethiopia, but about an audit report, which apparently showed
the ineptness of the leaders who are not fit to lead an organization
let alone a country.
