Interview With Meles Zenawi(washington post)
The premier may have had it and who can blame him if he decides
to call it quit come next election. The continuous badgering he
has gotten form an ill informed opponents is much too much.
However Ethiopia will lose big time if Meles quits! I say this because
Meles the person is an extraordinary leader. His farsightedness
and ability to lead in bad and good times is beyond anyone’s imagination.
Ethiopia needs badly a person like him. To be honest Meles needs
to stay put for a while until the country pulls itself from the
abject poverty it finds in. His government has done a lot in this
regard and there must be continuity in policy.
At the moment I cannot foresee continuity with out him leading the
organization. Especially in the face of a stiff opposition that
is hell bent to undo the constitution and disturb the status quo.
I for one have not seen any one ready to take his place from the
EPRDF leadership.
I have heard one weakness of Meles is that he has not groomed a
successor within his organization. I agree and for this and many
other reasons he needs to stay. This does not mean with out him
Ethiopia is doomed, what it means is with out him the struggle against
poverty will take a long time unnecessarily .[Zeru Hagos]
Update
on the fallen Kinijit Diaspora. Sirotu yetatekut Sirotu
Yefetal.
(Aigaforum 12-15-06): -While Andargachew Tsige, the new self appointed
or shall we say Elias Kifle appointed leader, is being ridiculed for
being...an implant in the opposition camp for being related to a high
official in the EPRDF... the IRS is rumored to be looking in to the
financial affairs of Kinijit Diaspora..
Globalisation is different thing to different people
By reuben kyama,
Every day, millions of people around the world enjoy drinking coffee. But few understand the geo-political and economic drama spilling into the pleasurable cup.
Recent news coming out of the country paints a grim reality in Eritrea.
Shaibya Eritrea is in unprecedented crisis. Mothers are thrown in jail on behalf of their run away children shaibya wants to put in an endless military service and the rest of the country is in a tight grip of a military junta. Even higher education centers could not escape the grip of this cruel junta.
Recent news coming out of the country paints a grim reality in Eritrea. Parents who could not account the where about of their children are being asked to pay $50,000 in Eritrean currency and those who could not afford are being told to register their belongings. To make things worst, while closing down Asmara university and in the process losing many professors with academic credentials Shaibya appoints a
colonel to run the only remaining higher education institution -Eritrean Institute of Technology. May be this is a defense college but shabait.com is not saying so and one wonders what else can Shaibya teach the world!
The Ethiopian Millennium – and the Question of Ethiopia’s Cultural Restitution (By Professor Richard Pankhurst):-
As the Ethiopian Millennium - which is nothing if not a cultural manifestation – approaches, today would seem an appropriate time to discuss the long-drawn-out question of Ethiopia’s cultural restitution

Somali Islamists vow not to strike government
BAIDOA (Reuters) - Somalia's top Islamist leader said on Friday his fighters
did not plan to attack interim government...[Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys
mocking Secretary Jenaydi Frazer's ] ...," he said, laughing. "The Americans
are led by women, and in our culture women cannot lead men, so we cannot
answer her." One more proof the Sheikh is diciple of Isayas Afeworki...remember
Isayas' comment on Susan Rice!
Somalia’s
Islamists and Ethiopia Gird for a War
“We wait for the Ethiopians like dry land waits for rain,” said Mustafa
Ali Mohammed, an Islamic leader in Burhakaba, a town near the dividing
line between the Islamists and Baidoa... (comment):-No Wonder people say Shaibya is behind
the UIC and Shaibya must be dealt the same way the UIC will be dealt.
If readers remember Wedi Afom (President Isayas) used to say Woyane (Ethiopian
Government) is like hallow tin container, it only makes noise. This in
reference to the continued plea by the Ethiopian government for Shaibya
forces to with draw from Ethiopian land. Which they did in disgrace finally
by the way!. Now the Jihadists followers of Wedi Afom to the south are
touting the Ethiopian government so much so they have given a week notice.
Typical Isayas Afeworki doctrine!
Starbucks Day of Action
Put the pressure on Starbucks this December 16 by taking action at your
local store
Your voice. Starbucks has a team of lawyers to protect its name; the Ethiopian
coffee farmer has you. Amplify the voices of Ethiopian farmers by speaking
to Starbucks directly
Tension between
Ethiopia and Somalia is not necessary
(posted on the web) Comment:- This is obviously a politically correct
statement. However the extremist in Somalia or for that matter the UIC
supporters such as Shaibya and Berhan Mewa group via AFD are not interested
or looking for a politically correct statement.
What they are looking for is the annexation of Ogaden in the case of UIC
and the dismantling of the constitutional order in Ethiopia in the case
of AFD and Shaibya. Now does this require a PHD to see this? No! And we
feel sorry our educated peace loving people who have signed this statement
are caught in between.
Pleasing the vocal Diaspora is a dangerous game. We think calling a spade
a spade is what is right at the moment. We can only agree to disagree
if we have a country and culture to speak of.
The extremist elements are hell bent to deny us our rich culture of tolerance.
Shaibya is hell bent to deny us our peace. Our misguided opposition forces
are hell bent to deny us our peace. Let us call a spade a spade!
Ethiopia's Mengistu found guilty of genocide
By Tsegaye Tadesse ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia's former ruler Mengistu
Haile Mariam was found guilty in absentia of genocide on Tuesday at the
end of a 12-year trial over his bloody rule.
The Coming Addis, if EPRDF has its way... No one knows
what Berhane Mewa and company( I have the folks behind Ethiopian Review
in mind) have in store for Addis. If Aiga readers allow me to guess then
look no further than Mogadishu their beloved city of their beloved leader
in arms Isayas Afeworki, AFD and UIC! [Zeru Hagos]
Somali
regime cites fear of regional war
"The Islamic Courts, instead of ceasing their expansion and committing
to peace and dialogue, have increased their military expansionist activities
and their belligerence to new heights," "Thousands of Eritrean and other
foreigners, who are answering the courts' call for 'jihad', are pouring
in,"
Radical Islamists are preparing to take control of the impoverished country
and start a regional war in East Africa
TO MOST Americans, Somalia is the place where "Black Hawk
Down" happened, or the place with the pictures of the starving African children...Somalia's
neighbors are bracing for a regional war,... Ethiopia, which has a restive
Muslim south and a history of being a target for Somali brigandage whenever
the Somalis pause in their intra-clan feuding, is sending troops to back
up the interim government and oppose the Islamists... The Eritreans, led
by an increasingly paranoid, sociopathic president, are the sworn blood
enemies of the Ethiopians. Seeing a chance to weaken their bigger neighbor,
they are flying in arms and instructors to the Islamists.
