(DNRonline.com):-While 2006 was not a great year, in the waning days there was a victory in the war on terrorism. It wasn’t a victory by the United States, but by the government and army of Ethiopia See also:Ethiopia Advances on Somali Islamists’ Last City

Reaffirms Support for East African Force for Somalia
(voanews.com)The United States said Thursday it continues to support a U.N. plan for an East African peacekeeping force for Somalia that would obviate the need for intervention by that country's neighbors. The U.N. plan, approved early this month, has stalled amid mounting violence in Somalia. VOA's David Gollust reports from the State Department... ![]()
Mogadishu under control, UIC extreme leaders in hiding.
(Aigaforum Dec 28,2006):- Mogadishu residents welcomed TFG forces and UIC
leaders gone in to hiding. Less than a week the fate of the extreme UIC elements and the international terrorists as well as mercenaries have gone from bad to worst. While Mogadishu residents welcome transitional government forces and its political leaders they have shun away UIC leaders who resigned officially yesterday. Sources tell us many of the UIC controlled building are now controlled by citizens and TFG forces. The Ramadan Hotel which used to be controlled by UIC and many other UIC buildings have been looted. The lootings some media have reported in Mogadishu is in fact the looting of UIC headquarters and buildings. Most of the UIC foot soldiers are now disarmed and have asked the public to forgive them. However residents are reported to be weary and are watching them with scrutiny. Mean time PM Meles held a briefing to private and international media in Addis. He told reporters the Ethiopian defense forces have completed over 75% of their mission. Ambassador Samuel
Assefa, Ethiopian Ambassador to US and Dr. David H. Shinn, Adjunct
Professor of the Practice of International Affairs at The George
Washington University (former ambassador to Ethiopia) Comment: We thank our distinguished Dr, Professor, Ambassador Samuel Assefa. The Ethiopian government should provide the Ambassador with all the resources he needs to accomplish his job, which we have confidence he will do superbly. With all due respect to Ambassador Shinn, it should have been clear that dialogue is not possible with forces that don’t want it and the call for foreign forces to move out of Somalia short of use of force is wishful thinking. Still the Ambassador is talking about power sharing and worrying Mogadishu will descend to chaos. It should be clear that the UIC is spent force and the only viable option is to integrate the moderates in the UIC to the political process under the transitional government. All indication form the capital is that people are ready to welcome the transitional government and and we hope the TFG has planned and is capable of securing law and order with consultation with civil society and clan elders. Credit should be given to the Dr that he is candid on the fact that he does not have information on Somalia – the hostile media against Ethiopia should have put that into account before using his legitimate doubt as an authoritative voice to discredit Ethiopia. Dr Shinn should give more credit to Ethiopia and what it set out to accomplish. Commentary Moving Along: What needs to

Why is Shabia
Immune to a legal punitive from Ethiopia?
By Alem See also: Moving Along: What needs to be done in Somalia In the interest of full disclosure, here
is a comment from one of our readers on Ethiomedia."Strangely,
Ethiomedia has behaved in reporting the war. Other than linking news articles,
there were no incendiary comments that I usually read about the Ethiopian
army. They are a little bit sober and cleaned their sites up a little
bit.....Hum-mm interesting.
