Newsweek Exclusive
Somalis have what many are calling an
African version of the Taliban, bent not only on imposing a harsh, Wahhabi-style
Islam on the country but allegedly also providing a safe haven, Afghan
style, for international terrorists. Movies and music have been banned;
open-air video parlors showing World Cup matches were shut down. Recently
the group appointed a Majlis al-Shura (consultative council) as its
supreme spiritual and policy-setting body, appointing as its leader
Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, who is on the U.S. terrorist watch list for
his connection to a Somali militant group, Al Itihad al-Islamiya
a thousand political and innocent
prisoners from the jaws of the derge regime during the struggle years
will be made in to a movie. For those who would like to know more about
the operation read the book “AGAZI “ by Berhan Abadi and Haile Ayalneh.
It was truly an amazing operation. The operation was lead and mastermind
by the late General Hayelom. Many of the freed prisoners chose to join
TPLF and many other chose to leave the country and live as refugees in
neighboring countries. Today quite a few of them are leading a comfortable
life in North America and Europe. Those who can should help this project
succeed. This is a once in a life time chance to see ones own history
made in to a movie! National politics and the futureBy: Imru Zelleke, from Ben's Page Comment: Ambassador Imru has been lamenting for too long in the corridors of Washington DC to undo EPRDF's strong connection to the West. Today he is forced to look inward to his beloved Kinijit. On his account there are more than three Kinijit's. This clearly is a sign that the organization is terminally ill. One can only guess why the Good Old Ambassador can not see a failed organization and call it quit!. His latest article puts him squarely against his comrade in arm Dr. Getachew Haile who endorsed the new AFD. These two gentle men are for all practical purpose the elders driving the vocal Diaspora to the edge of the cliff. Perhaps some followers will be saved now if they heed the Ambassador's call to denounce AFD.Ambassador Imru is against AFD! |

Ethiopian
officials tour area schools
By Nancy Kaffer
This week, Pine Belt schools played host to a group of
Ethiopian delegates interested in high-tech education.
Local schools targeted by post-Hurricane Katrina grants
from Cisco Systems Inc. are now home to world-class technology such as
the Promethean Activeboards, a computerized "whiteboard" that
allows teachers to integrate the Internet, instant student evaluation
and multi-media lessons.
