His access and client list are both sure to grow even more now that George W. Bush--under whose father Cohen served as assistant secretary of state for Africa--occupies the White House.....

Deputy
Assistant Secretary Of State For African Affairs Discusses His Latest
Trip To The Continent
...the US official wrapped up a two-day visit to Ethiopia
that included what he calls “very positive” talks with the Ethiopian
government focusing on border dispute....There’s a bigger problem that
needs to be resolved, and that is the normalization of relations. Because
if we can’t resolve the problem that gave rise to the war, then demarcation
only leads to another war. The other issue that’s important is the thirty
towns and villages that will be divided. We don’t want these divided
towns and villages to be the source of another war or conflict.”

A CUD MAKEOVER(Satire)
These days,CUD is getting lesson 101( )"Right
of Nation and Nationalities"from its new mentor OLF (an
alergic subject to the CUD when thought by EPRDF). OLF is saying
stop talking about your ego (banter about flag and empty rhetoric
about Emiye Ethiopia) and start talking about people. As if CUD has
not claimed to have won from north to south, like a good student it
shouting "new out look for a fresh start!",
ceding the Oromo vote for OLF. For those who have heard an earful
about Imiye Ethiopia, the flag, and "Man Indegna Ethiopiawe Akake
Zeraf" from the CUD year long, we wonder, may be the OLF has
found the antidote to tame the chauvinism(it
is called the promise of power). EPRDF
take a rest, chauvinist and narrow nationalist are teaching
each other mistake of their extreme position. The learning curve is
so sharp that it won't be long for CUD to gallop lesson 102 - accepting
article 39... or would it?..as they say old
habits are hard to die... |

Count Down to the end of CUD-OLF HoneymoonOf the entire alphabet soup alliance that is churned by the opposition none has generated such controversy as that of the AFD. Beside making sure that the line is signed by the CUD-Diaspora and others, OLF seems to give a pass being baptized “Ethiopian” by CUD high priests. There is no news on its site (correction: there is only on press release, but a minuscule compared to the gaga of CUD over the formation of the alliance ) about the Alliance and OLF never bothered to change is mission that sates “The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) is a political organization established in 1973 by Oromo nationalists to lead the national liberation struggle of the Oromo people against the Abyssinian colonial rule.”UEDF-Diaspora, who distanced itself from the alliance, is making mockery of CUD's blander. Despite the attempt by CUD's spiritual fathers to calm the nerve of its followers, with bizzare arguement, CUD is having a second thought, realizing that it has gotten the short end of the stick in the Alliance. Some quarters are vouching that they can outsmart Shabia, blaming the CUD North America representatives for the fiasco and that the document is going to have a do over after “qualified” members have read it. Whether OLF, who secured to have 2/3 vote of the governing council to amend the Statute, will be open to such idea remain to be seen . Will the CUD manage to get any help out of the Alliance to show to its unhappy campers? Will it pull out or continue to be a side kick feeding its supporters empty rhetoric, in denial that it has practically managed to nullify the issues it purported to stand to a single task of removing the ruling party at the expense of its leaders and the country's national interest? Either way the CUD has not made its downfall any more graceful. |

What
was OLF saying before AFD?(internal memo)
"...The old dictum is that whoever rules
Addis/Finfinne also rules Ethiopia. Not only has the capital, the CUD
won a majority in many of the major cities. The question is does winning
the mayor’s seat or the council amount to governing a city? This is an
interesting question. Despite the fact that many of its leaders are advanced
in age, the organization is still too young and untested in many respects.
It is only six months old. It brings together strong-minded individuals
who see themselves as defacto leaders. Power struggle is a distinct possibility.
Although it won only
in the capital and the Amhara region, it will be foolish to underestimate
this force. However one may find their message retrograde, it has struck
a chord with most of the sectors of the urban Amhara and Gurage population.
It is true that its agenda arouses the most vocal opposition from Tigray
to Oromia to the South and all the way to Eritrea. If the CUD continues
to face on serious opposition from others, their profile is likely to
rise even higher. OLF should be concerned about this development and
should act to meet this emerging threat before it’s become even more entrenched
along with the immediate task of weakening TPLF."
comment: It all makes sense why OLF chose CUD over UEDF/EPRP! we got
to give it to them! they have indeed checkmate CUD NA
