Progress at Horn of Africa talks
Talks to end a border dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea have ended with what diplomats are describing as a measure of progress. Ethiopia indicated that it now accepts the tribunal's ruling without reservations

comment:Any indication that ushers a lasting peace is near is good news. But we know better, Shaebia or its leader Mr. Afeworki is not interested in peace. Martin Plaut may be hoping against hope in this article and he is not alone!

The European Left can not spoil Ethiopia's Democratization Process

On the foot steps of Anna Gomez comes Luisa Morgantini, an activist who is a member of Anti-globalization, Anti-capitalist , pro Euro communist party with 97,784 members in a country of 58.4 Million people. These clueless leftist fringes, who don't even have good ideas for Europe, no doubt are being targeted by Negedes Gobeze of Ethiopia’s Socialist Movement to play destructive role in Ethiopia.

Despite the attempts to drag back Ethiopia, efforts are being done to see Ethiopia in a better democratic space with a vibrant Parliament, responsible press where Ethiopian destructive opposition, the European leftist and the vicious Anna Gomez's vilification campaign at the expense of Ethiopian democracy will be discredited one year from election 2005.

Ethiopia in 2005: The Beginning of a Transition? *[1] Some Comments.
(Antony Shaw, 3/09/06):- It should concern all Ethiopian scholars, Ethiopianists, observers of Ethiopia that so much recent writing on Ethiopia, including most of the discourse on last year's controversial elections, has been politically inept, even malicious, propaganda, often of appalling quality.

Update from our email folder

Latest update on Nugussie can be found at: Latest update

Negussie Woldemariam has been released on his own recognizance. In other words he has been released without having to post bail or bond. This speaks to his credibility in the eyes of the court. Negussie has been charged with carrying a weapon with out a license. A trial date has been set.
The charge of carrying a weapon without a license is a far cry from the “brandishing a weapon and pointing at two Ethiopians” as was implied by a few disreputable websites. There was a large contingent of supporters in the court room as well as a few CUD cadres who tried to intimidate the supporter’s by taking pictures with their cell phones. The intimidation was an utter failure since people are proud to stand next to and with Negussie.
More details will soon be provided. Sunday’s program on Hager Fiker Radio will cover this issue. It is obvious that Negussie’s program has become effective. This attempt to silence Negussie speaks volumes to this fact. Negussie is gaining more and more supporters on a weekly basis exposing the corrupt agenda of the CUD. In fact this will only strengthen and popularize Negussie in the eyes of the general public. More details will be made available soon.

From our Mailbag
On Negussie Woldemariam

As it has been reported on several opposition websites, Negussie Woldemariam has been taken into custody in the District of Columbia on 3/7/2006. Despite the attempts to portray the incident as a violent act, the real reason he was taken into custody was for possessing a weapon in the District of Columbia without a license. Negussie is licensed to carry a weapon in the State of Maryland because he was able to establish reasonable fear for his life and his family’s life due to real and implied threats made against his life. It is in this spirit that he was in possession of a gun.

We will provide you with more detailed information which we have no doubt will convince you that Negussie is justified to fear for his and his family’s life. We also ask you to reserve judgment until all the information is made available and not be influenced by the irresponsible attempt to tarnish his name by irresponsible individuals in the internet and radio. We are confident that Negussie name will be cleared and this incident will only strengthen his resolve to fight for his beliefs. Negussie also wanted us to thank all his supporters for standing by him during this trying period.

CUD crying wolf pays no dividend

Comment :CUD told continued divisiveness and fiery rhetoric will not pay. It is told to show leadership. Accept the rule of law. It looks the days of defacing the image of Ethiopia, the days of attempting to use the US's desire to bring about democracy arround the globe to your own wicked agenda are over.

"We have, and will continue to call for such dialogue to expand to include the full spectrum of organizations that represent the Ethiopian people. It is, however, incumbent on all entities and organizations that are committed to the prosperity and democratization of Ethiopia to abide by the rule of law. The United States shares your concern of growing disillusionment with dialogue among some sectors of Ethiopian society. It is, therefore, incumbent upon Ethiopia's leaders, including those from among the organizations that you and your colleagues represent, to demonstrate the leadership needed to regain this segment of society's commitment to, and confidence, in resolution of the current political crisis through dialogue and reconciliation. Continued divisiveness and fiery rhetoric will only further inflame the on-going crisis"

Letter to Dr. Seyoum Solomon (Chairman of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations Committee Kinijit, North America) from Mr. Donald Yamamoto, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary For African Affairs.
