Thought for Today
“I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.” by Thomas Paine

If you think the Diaspora sickness of seeing everything as a conspiracy affects only Kinjitiets (?)you are wrong. The other day there was some sort of tele-conference organized by some sort of groupings mainly from the Tigrean community...[Zeru Hagos]

High Ranking Official form Eritrea escaped to Ethiopia!

According to Dimtsi Woyane a high ranking official from the foreign ministry in the Isayas Afewroki regime in Eritrea has escaped to Ethiopia through Tigray. The official, Aite Berket Kesete Hagos has asked asylum and will be granted due to the long-standing relationship between the Eritrean and Ethiopian people. Though the regime in Eritrea has been trying to put a wedge between the two people Ethiopia and Eritrea, the Ethiopian government and people have welcomed thousands of Eritrean escaping from persecution and harassment in their own country. As you recall Eritrea gained independent in 1993 and ever since many Eritreans have seen the worst in their life. Life in Eritrea has been harsh and unbearable due to a misguided policy by the Isayas regime.

''Somalia: The Dynamics of Post-Intervention Political Failure''
Report Drafted By: Dr. Michael A. Weinstein
[It is amazing how this man seemingly goes from predicting that the horn will be engulfed by anarchy and war if Ethiopia intervenes in Somalia to equating Somalia to Iraq! Are we missing something? Knowing his prior prediction along with his credibility has been damaged beyond repair, which he should have known when he started churning articles and analysis with out setting a foot in Somalia, he is now predicting Somalia will be Iraq! As they say in Ethiopia this is clearly the case of “ke detu wede matu” Not sure if this learned man really knows anything about Somalia! The extremist agenda does not enjoy a popular support. Though they tired to hide behind the Hawiye clan after their defeat they have been rebuffed thus why TFG and Ethiopia were able to uproot them from Mogadishu and sent them packing to Asmara. Somalia come rain or shine will always be protective of their clans thus will always find reason to fight until they sort out a working formula to coexist together. To this end they have started the journey. One thing for sure, Somalia form here on will not be a base for terrorist and strategic enemies of Ethiopia. That was Ethiopia’s mission and it has superbly accomplished its mission. If in doubt wait and see]

Somalia , the UN and all-too-brief international visits
(Abdulkadir Younis):- In his column on May 18, Salim Lone finally accepted, if only in a brief and rather reluctant aside, that “some [civilian atrocities] have been committed by the insurgents [in Mogadishu ] as well.” Equally, he still continues to argue, against the evidence on the ground...

Mixing Faith with Politics, “Christian” fanatics in the making?

(Aigaforum, May 22, 2007) As all of you dear readers can attest Aigaforum, unlike other websites, did not interfere or advocate supporting either the Ethiopian Orthodox Church or some of the disgruntled Diaspora Churches...In the following clips you will hear a certain abune in the Vocal Diaspora camp uttering words, let alone an abune even a priest would not express. You will hear a hateful person that should not have become an abune even to the Vocal Diaspora..., More

Notice-to-Proceed Launches Ambitious Red Sea Crossing
Enjoy this positive news, the West is clearly going to be on the defensive, it can not ignore Africa any more with such developments and China’s involvement. The world is too large to be dictated by Rohrabacher and company we might note!

A letter sent to Lynn Fredriksson, Advocacy Director for Africa, Amnesty International, USA by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FDRE (May 18, 2007)
Lynn Fredriksson and Amnesty International USA taken to task by the Ethiopian government! Lynn is challenged to reconcile recent events in Somalia against the biased report given during the congress hearing. Gone are the days where liars were allowed to go unchallenged! About time!

Additional Sparks Fly in the Horn of Africa
By J. Peter Pham, Ph.D.:- A little less than year ago, I appeared before a joint hearing of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Human Rights, and International Operations and the Subcommittee on International Terrorism...

China buying an African 'empire'
CHINA intends to provide about $US20 billion ($24.3 billion) in infrastructure and trade financing to Africa during the next three years, eclipsing many of the continent's traditional big donors by a single pledge.

The West must realize Africa sooner than later will catch up and be competitive. Africa’s raw material and human wealth will not be exploited the way it has been. China is coming to Africa not to buy an empire but to make a sound business. In Ethiopia's case, unlike the West, China is building a long-term relationship by investing in infrastructure and technology. Some westerners have been tying their willingness to invest in Africa to good governance and democracy. However in the face of their huge investment in China a communist country and other countries with worst problems in good governance, their stand on Africa is wrong. Buying an empire or not China is coming full speed to Africa and we Africans should welcome with open arm.
G8 finance ministers have warned against giving African countries cheap loans that they will struggle to repay

Did you know!

HR2228 is clearly anti Ethiopia and is targeted against Ethiopia's interest. It is clearly supported by the one man government in Eritrea...

"...One major new provision in H.R. 2228 is the Requirement of compensation for persons who’s Properties was confiscated by government action in Ethiopia. Accordingly, “all capital assets of United States citizens and of entities not less than 50 Percent beneficially owned by United States citizens That have been nationalized, expropriated, or Otherwise seized by the Ethiopian government before The date of the enactment of this Act in contravention Of international law are returned or a mutually agreed Upon restitution agreement is performed.”

This has nothing to do with any American property but Berhane Gebermedhi’s Liquor Company. Berhanes daughter, sons with Shabia operatives in Washington including Rep Rohrabacher and the now convicted lobbyist Abramoff have for years attempted to enforce these. Now Shabia has succeeded with the help of Ethiopians collaborating with Ethiopian groups that joined AFD.

Besides, EPRDF did not confiscate any property, the Derg regime did! It is ironic once upon a time Derg cadres are sponsoring this bill! The EPRDF regime is trying its best to address the ill fated nationalizing proclamation Derg passed in the 1970's.
