Thought For Today
"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers." by M. Scott Peck

Joint Statement from the Ethiopia Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) and Starbucks Coffee Company Regarding Agreement in Principle

Comment: The untiring effort of our people has given birth to a mutual agreement between Starbucks and Ethiopia. This is one other win by the government of Ethiopia and an outstanding confirmation that the wave of change in Ethiopia is transforming the country.

We are witnessing the emerging bottom up transformation of the country once again. The people are co-creators of their future and it has been reiterated to allies who want to invest in Ethiopia.

The vision to eradicate poverty by 2015 is once again espoused by companies like Starbucks. The cry of the poor farmers to get fair trade instead of aid is aft er all a tangible vision and Starbucks has embraced that vision and agreed to work towards mutual benefit of both parties. The shift of perspective has brought the recognition of the poor farmers.

Today the landscape of Ethiopia's economic foundation are the farmers who are the backbone of the country. It is heart warming and fulfilling to have a major American corporation like Starbucks agree to work with the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to stand alongside the coffee farmers.

Over the past eight months, 519 Higdef soldiers (Eritrean) and more than 3000 other Eritreans entered Ethiopia through Tigray leaving behind their homes and country they fought for over 30 years! This is the story of Eritreans under the one man dictator in Asmara who is squandering the country’s wealth and soul on hiring petty criminals and terrorist who can help him prolong his iron fist dictatorship.

Accordingly, the enrollment of primary education which was 19 percent 15 years ago has now reached 91.3 percent, while that of secondary education has grown to 33.7 percent from six percent, Fuad said.
Comment: This is what the so-called opposition does not want its supporters to know. Ethiopia is moving forward and significant progress is being registred in many areas. The shaebia-led destructive forces must realize the Ethiopian people will not allow any destructive force to derail further development and the fight against poverty.

Travel Warning to ERITREA (State Dept)
This Travel Warning is being issued to update information on Eritrea’s current security situation and to reiterate the Department of State’s advice that U.S. citizens defer non-essential travel to Eritrea ...

EU embraces Eritrea in search for Horn peace(Reuters)
...Louis Michel gave a warm welcome to President Isaias Afwerki despite allegations of human rights violations,....
Gud eko nuw! is what we have to say! If the commissioner thinks a one man government and a pariah state that is in bed with all kind of terrorist can be a partner to fight terrorism in East Africa, he is mistaken. And if he thinks appeasing Isayas Afeworki, the mastermind behind the carnage in Ogaden, at the cost of upsetting the Ethiopian people and its government, will help the peace process he is wrong. We think the commissioner is doing all of this to show his institution’s independence from Washington who has labeled the one man government in Eritrea as menace to peace in the horn, yet he is wrong to rehabilitate a defeated terror organizations in Somalia and Eritrea. That is exactly what the EU commissioner is doing in this case. This will not pass unnoticed and we shall see if peace will prevail by upsetting over 70+million people in the Horn! Gud Eko Nuw!

Man arrested for cash at Detroit airport gets year in prison
...Assistant U.S. Attorney Leonid Feller told U.S. District Judge Marianne O. Battani on Thursday that Dinssa acknowledged meeting with and financially aiding the Oromo Liberation Front...
"There is substantial evidence _ both direct and circumstantial _ to implicate the defendant in matters of national security,"
[It won't be long before the long arm of the US gets to terrorist and their sympathizers and label the OLF and ONLF as terrorist!]

BLUE NILE THIRD ANNUAL BANQUET A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!
The Timothy Project/Ethiopia held its 3rd Blue Nile Banquet on April 28, 2007, hosted by Cornerstone Christian Church. With musical selections provided by the Light Singers of the Filipino Church, the banquet was attended by more than 150 people comprising leaders from the educational, technological, medical, ecclesiastical, government, business, American-friends of Ethiopia and members of the Ethiopian-Diaspora

A lone political analyst who said too much on Somalia damaging his credibility and worthiness has finally given up. Though he is still trying to justify his prediction that has for most part been untrue with clumsy accounts of events of the smallest terrorist events, he nonetheless has realized he was clearly mistaken...when he said

"... In the year that PINR has been reporting regularly on Somalia, the multiple and overlapping conflicts that rive the country have never been as confused and intense as they are now, making grounded predictions impossible, except for the general observation that destabilization is likely to continue...." in his latest diatribe

How nice it is for a Prof from Midwest America that never set a foot in Somalia to tell us he can not be certain about ground condition in Somalia. Simply a Looser!

MLK professor teaches 'excitement' of solving math--and life--problems
Tefera, who has been named a Martin Luther King Jr. Visiting Professor for 2006-2007
In the small southern Ethiopian town where Akalu Tefera grew up, mathematics and physics textbooks were scarce. High school students who were as inspired by their teachers as he was borrowed their teachers' books.

Panel cites gross violations of religious freedom...(CNN)
...In addition to Saudi Arabia, the countries on that black list, unchanged since 2005, are China, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea, Sudan and Uzbekistan.

[For a country like Eritrea a simple sanction could have a better outcome to the persecuted but the West seems to have decided to prolong the pain on the believers of that unfortunate country!]

State Sponsored Terrorism in the Horn and the Response of the International Community
(A. Mulu - 2 May 2007)The latest report of the US State Department on Terrorism published on 30 April has a grim outlook. We are indeed living in perilous times. The number of victims of terrorism has increased by 40 percent globally during 2006...
