How many of you are registered Republican Party Member in America?
I bet, most of us are registered Democrats. I think this is a good time to reevaluate and analyze the value and benefit of our political affiliation and our donation. I personally never paid serious attention to my political affiliation until today “HR2003”. I did soul searching and asked the legitimate questions as any intelligent person would ask about my affiliation with my party and the representatives I voted for. Does the Democratic Party represent my heart and mind? Do they represent my value, belief and interest? Now I realize that the party that I associated myself with all my adult life doesn’t represent my value and interest. The democratic agenda doesn’t benefit my tax base or my international political outlook. Was I mistaken to register as democrats?
How about you?
The reality is, every time the Democratic Party is in control of the Presidency, the house and senate, they fail to understand and capture a realistic vision for Africa and the rest of the emerging world. “Globalization” Economics and War on Terror are areas that haven’t been visited by the Democratic Party in power after 9/11 and what they will attempt to do remain to be seen. As far back as I can recall, the Democratic Party hasn’t supported the people of Ethiopia or the government in power except their so called humanitarian support. Take an example of what happened during President Carter Administration. When the notorious Mengistu HaileMariam requested more weapons to fight Somalia, they refused to provide him the weapons. Why, you may ask The answer is very simple. President Carter being a religious person, thought that if he gives weapon to Mengistu, he will be committing a crime “Black on Black” What did Mengistu do? He went to Russia to get what he wanted. I need to make myself clear here. I am not a supporter of Mengistu or what he did. I just brought up this analogy to show what the democrats did when they were in power. They are mostly focused in local issues such as welfare, unemployment and immigration in America. President Clinton could have done a lot to prevent 9/11 in America if he wasn’t immersed and blinded with domestic issues.
The world has changed since 9/11. Is the Democratic Party ready to handle the current political turmoil engulfing the rest of the world? The war in Iraq, Iranian nuclear power issue, Islamic fundamentalism, Al Quieda, Pakistan (Perez Musharraf) and oil price hitting $200/barrel. If so, we need to ask ourselves the following questions: what does your political affiliation and the money you donate to the party measure up to? Who is the real supporter of political and regional stability in East Africa? I am not saying you shouldn’t be concerned about local issues. But, where is your heart and mind?
The presidential election is coming soon. Lets us unit and say to the party that represents our value and interest “if you represent my belief and value, then I will give you my vote.”
