Boston - Massachusetts Tigrai community successfully celebrated the 31st anniversary.
(March 7, 2006):-Boston - Massachusetts Tigrai community successfully celebrated the 31st anniversary of the armed struggle waged by TPLF and the national celebration of the Tigrai people, which made possible the overthrow of the Derg - the dictatorial Regime in Ethiopia 1991. The celebration party, which was organized by UTNA Boston chapter, was held at the grand hotel of Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. It was packed with festive Ethiopians who came as far as Portland Maine and Connecticut. Layne Abay, Murutse and Taddess played Cultural and modern music.
The honorable guest for this celebration, his Excellency Ambassador Tewoelde Gebru, delivered a congratulatory speech. In his speech he emphasized the historical significance of “Lekatit” 11th to the people of Ethiopia in general and to the people of Tigray in particular in bringing peace, democracy and development. He praised the role of the Tigrai community in the Diaspora and specifically the Boston Tigrai community, for their commitment to supporting the struggle in the past and their continued active participation in support of the country and the EPRDF lead government.
Similarly a successful TDA meeting was held the following day where his Excellency Ambassador Tewolde Gebru, the current TDA Executive Director, gave development video and PowerPoint presentation. After discussing the current situation of TDA, the participants fully agreed to work tediously and to raise money to execute projects in Tigrai. Members elected five members to run the Boston chapter during this meeting.
