Kinijit leaders in California and Texas
The Kinijit train whistled through California and Texas over the weekend creating excitement and hope among Ethiopian communities. Kinijit leaders' core message was that their party is trying to institute genuine democracy and rule of law in Ethiopia by being an example. They repeated the message that a party that doesn't have a democratic culture, a party that doesn't respect its own rules and procedures cannot bring democracy and rule of law to Ethiopia. The Kinijit leaders' message was well received in both Oakland, California, and Dallas, Texas where the people voted with their pockets, contributing close to $100,000. It was not an easy ride. Anti-Kinijit forces were out in full force working day and night to derail the two events. Pamphlets were distributed saying that the meetings have been canceled. There were phone calls and emails discouraging people not to attend the Oakland and Dallas meetings. Communists, feudalists, tribalists, dergists, opportunists, lumpens and crooks are all lined up against Kinijit. But Kinijit's freedom train continues to gather momentum. It will either win them over or leave them behind to bite dust…

SEATTLE - Starting today, the talk and worry in SSeattle is how to welcome and make the leaders visiting Seattle feel at home during their three-day stay in the Emerald City.
Those of us in Seattle will be joined by our Kinijit friends from Portland, Oregon State, and from the elegant Vancouver, BC in Canada.
At a meeting held last night at Beacon Hill Hall, Ethiopians discussed for over two hours topics ranging from rolling out the red carpet at Seatac International Airport to staging a rich traditional Ethiopian dances at China Harbor, a restaurant with a 1000-seat conference hall by the seaside of Lake Union in the heart of downtown Seattle.

"It's once in-a-lifetime-experience," said Shakespear Feyissa, the prominent lawyer who is heading the committee that is overseeing the welcoming ceremony of the Kinjit leaders, " and everyone of you should throw your weight behind the preparation to welcome the great Ethiopians to our city."
"Various committees have been set up in connection with carrying out the programs of Kinijit leaders here in Seattle," says Muluneh Yohannes, a staunch Kinijit organizer and human rights activist, who added "the details of each program will be publicized in the shortest time possible."
Posters have already hit the streets and stores of Seattle, Vancouver BC and Portland, while tickets will soon pop up over the weekend.
Following is a press release by organizers of the ceremony welcoming the Kinijit leaders to the city of Seattle.

Kinijit leaders who are currently on a working visiting in the U.S. arrived in Boston Saturday morning. Ethiopians in Boston turned out in large numbers to give them a warm welcome. After getting some rest they attended a fund raising dinner which raised over $40,000, according to the organizers. In her speech at the dinner, Wzt. Bertukan made a public appeal to Ato Hailu Shawel to join the delegation. The audience expressed support for her appeal through loud cheers and applause. Boston is Kinijit's strong hold in the U.S., and today's events — the welcoming ceremony at the airport in the morning, and the fund raising dinner — have proved that. One of the main reasons for Kinijit leaders' travel to the U.S. is to raise funds, and so far they are on track to raise over a million dollars. They have up to now collected close to 1/4th of that in just two cities. The funds will be used to rebuild the party's structure in Ethiopia and reopen its offices through out the country. If Woyanne allows that is yet to be seen. Ethiopian Review is grateful to Aklog Lemeneh, Samuel Belihu, Ashebir Tadesse, Minasse Yimam, and Yohannes Tessema for helping with our live coverage of Kinijit's arrival in Boston and the fund raising event…

The Kinijit town hall meeting in Las Vegas is now over. More time than usual
was given for the question and answer program of the event. The audience were
expressing their views as much as asking questions. The 370 people who
participated in the meeting raised a total of $41,900 for Kinijit. Considering
that there are far fewer people in Las Vegas than in Dallas or Oakland, raising
this much money was a great success. The next major event is the Kinijit
leaders' arrival in Seattle on Friday and the town hall meeting on Saturday.

The Kinijit high-level delegation to the United States led by Wzt. Bertukan Mideksa and including Dr Hailu Araya, Ato Gizachew Shiferraw, Ato Brook Kebede and Dr Berhanu Nega visited five cities since Friday as they finalize their USA tour. On Saturday, Wzt. Bertukan, Ato Gizachew, and Dr Berhanu participated in a town hall meeting and fund raising event in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota known as the Twin Cities. Artist Abebe Belew conducted the fund raising event which brought in $25,000. The meeting was attended by about 600 people. On Sunday, Dr Hailu Araya and Ato Brook Kebede attended a public meeting in Denver, Colorado. About 150 Ethiopians who reside in the Denver Metro area took part the meeting and raised $14,200. Meanwhile, Dr Berhanu Nega went to Chicago to participate in a small town hall meeting. As in Denver, about 150 Ethiopians attended the Chicago meeting with Dr Berhanu and contributed $10,000 for Kinijit. At the same time, Wzt. Bertukan and Ato Gizachew held a similar public meeting in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We don't know what happened there yet…
