Call for Ethiopians in the Diaspora

__________________________________

Let us come in the new millennium with new spirit and hope for our beloved country Ethiopia and its people. I think it is time to acknowledge that the government is moving one step ahead concerning the normalization of Ethiopian politics. When I say normalization I mean “living with real opponents.” I think it is the right time to give applauds for the Ethiopian government for its action of realising CUD leaders in the eve of new millennium. Based on this ground the opposition camp can work together with the government to wards the development of our country irrespective of political program differences. It is the only way to avoid pulling back of Ethiopian interest in every aspect. We have to learn that opposing every thing brings nothing except losing precious time which we can do some thing for our country and our future. We have to avoid once for all the Amharic saying “Enee Kemotku Serdo Aybikel.” Whether we like it or not Ethiopia will survive as usual except us that we have limited time to pass away, and “Serdo” will be raised. There for I think we have to exercise to show matured political tolerance in the new millennium. I don’t mean that we have to throw away our political differences, but we have to learn how different political parties in the other world live in tolerance and work together towards for the development of their country. Let EPRDF also be ready for true political pluralism in Ethiopia and respect different opinion of the oppositions rather than being engaged in character assassination of the opposition leaders. It is good opportunity for all sides to come together in the new millennium with new spirit. In my opinion it is not important to find the winner in the current situation if really we are ready to test stabilized politics in our country. There are a lot of things to be done by Diaspora Ethiopians to realize the new spirit in the new millennium. The best of all I think is to avoid being enemy of each other, restrain from igniting approaches. I am ready to work with any individuals or groups, which are able to stand for the new spirit in the new millennium.

With respect and love to all Ethiopians,
Cheers,
Buzu Mengistu
