Ethiopian Forum for Political Civility celebrated its 1st Anniversary
(Aigaforum, Sep 12, 2007)
A little over a year ago the Diaspora community was under siege by the extreme activists from the Ethiopian opposition camps. Churches, Restaurants and Small Business owners were threatened to either align with them or else face continuous harassment and boycott. Many individuals and business owners oblige and were forced to follow these extremists. But few stood their ground and Ethiopian Forum for Political Civility was one of them.
Ethiopian Forum for Political Civility is an online voice discussion forum that started a little over a year ago by few courageous and good hearted Ethiopians. The Forum was started after seeing the continuous abuse the extremists were causing to the fledgling democratic process in Ethiopia and after realizing how much these extremists were hindering the Diaspora’s individual right in the name of Kinijit. Many civility forum members have their own political persuasion yet they saw the only way out for to a better future was to compromise “mechachal” and established Civility Forum! Forum members support what is good about EPRDF and denounce what is bad about Kinjit and the other opposition organizations. In fact some members were past activist in the OLF and some still support Kinjit the better “menfes/Spirit” that was. Yet all were in Indianapolis, Indiana to celebrate the first year anniversary of Ethiopian Forum of political Civility. Agaiforum could not have been more delighted to see Ethiopians from all political persuasion coming together to celebrate civility and promote democracy and joined the celebration.
By the good will of few members over 25 Civility forum members were hosted at the Sheraton Hotel in Indianapolis form Sep 7-9. The occasion's primary mission was to let members know each other. The Forum being a cyber forum has members who did not know each other except in name sake. The three day event helped members to have a renewed energized spirit to do more and to take Ethiopians Forum for Political Civility in to the next stage. And from what was achieved during the eve of the third millennium more is yet to come!
The forum held dawn to dusk online coverage of the Ethiopian millennium celebration in Ethiopia. The online commentator Yehezb Habet did a masterful work covering the Ethiopian Television converges of the event to online audience at Civility all over the world. From Millennium Hall to Jan Meda to Stadium events were described to the audience by the resourceful Yehezb Habet. Reviews coming online tell a very pleased audience. People listened to Civility’s coverage from work place and homes.
Aigaforum is very delighted to work with Ethiopians Forum for Political Civility and welcomes more Diaspora to join the enough is enough camp. It is time,
Happy new millennium and wish you a very happy and prosperous new year,
