Dear Aiga Forum!

I read with interest your article  A Short Commentary: No War no Peace”

In my previous letter I wrote I was in favour of destroying the Somali jihadists militarily and I still believe that it should be nipped in the bud. Because, the stronger the jihadists in Somalia become the more devastating it will become for Ethiopia both in number of Ethiopian’s sacrificed in the battle field as well as the economy of the country.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong and hope also that Ethiopia and the U.S.A in particular have better cards in their sleeves to neutralise the threatening danger of the Jihadists in Somalia .

No sane man/women will choose war to peace, but history teaches us that anesthetizing effect of the major victory of Ethiopia over Somalia in 1967 was somehow the reason for the less prepared Ethiopia to be humiliated by Siad Barre of Somalia in 1978.

The Ethiopian PM Meles Zenawi said that Ethiopia has the might and preparedness to crush anyone that threatens the territorial integrity of the country. If anyone, the PM knows the objective reality in ground at this moment.

But, my fear is that world/Superpower politics changes particularly with the change of political leaders, so does the military balance of the region. Ethiopia is not only dealing with the jihadist in Somalia, but rather with petrodollar pig reach countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya (Egypt in the background and together because of fear of not wanting to expose itself to the U.S.A). PM Meles Zenawi’s policy and its strengthening policy with the U.S.A is a work of a genius man which if developed further will also allow Ethiopia to exploit fully its huge natural resource potential including Abay and all its tributaries to mention some.

Let me once again hope that my fear on the dangerous situation directed against Ethiopia ( Somalia , Shabya’s Eritrea and the many anti-Ethiopia forces like the OLF, ONLF, EPPF and the so called AFD et cetera et cetera) will pass as a nasty nightmare and never become a major problem by destabilising and fragmenting the country.
