Dear Senator Inhofe,
As I was reading same tabloid internet media, I was taken back with same of the letters addressed to you. “Open letter to Senator Inhofe and We demand an apology, Senator Inhofe”
These letters don’t represent the opinion of the majority of Ethiopians at home or the Diaspora. These individuals are not the spoke persons for Ethiopians. They are detached and disconnected form the reality of Ethiopia, Ethiopians and the whole region. We can see this from their political and social view of the region. Their luck of knowledge of Ethiopia and current East African political and economical conditions has left them to criticize and demeanor those respected public officers like you here in United States.
Mr. Inhofe as a member of Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) whose purpose is raising awareness about the tens of thousands of orphans and foster children in the United States and the millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes through adoption; and to eliminating the barriers that hinder these children from realizing their basic right of a family. You have been fighting the fight to make a difference in the world. By sacrificing your personal life and dedicating your time and money for this purpose is appreciated and please don’t take it lightly.
I personal can relate to what you said on the senate floor in regarding to the adoption of your grand daughter from Ethiopia while you were addressing HR2003. As an adopter of a little girl from Ethiopia myself, I can understand the conditions and elements that exists for these under age (12 &13 years) girl forced to have a baby and what to do with them. With out your participation and commitment, this world will not be a place for these children to live in a safe home. The unfortunate and sad thing of these individuals who write these letters to you are self centered and motivated to advance their own personal interest by making you look like a raciest and unfamiliar with the country. They are the beneficiary of your hard work and commitment to build this safe heaven for them to speak and write what pleases them. I challenge each and every one of these oppositions to adopt a child and make a difference in the lives of these children. I might also add that these individuals have forgotten their birth place. As it has been said,” If you don’t know where you came from, you would not know where you are going.”
Mr. Inhofe, as a supporter of your vision and your stand on HR2003, I would not be discouraged by their hair splitting and twisting of what you have said. We support your statement and support what you are doing for Ethiopia, Ethiopians and the rest of the world.
Sincerely Yours,
D T 10/23/2007
