Dr. Tedros Adhanom Addresses The Ethiopian Community in Seattle
 
(Oct 18,2007)-The Ethiopian community in Seattle Washington had a wonderful treat on
October 17. The Ethiopian health Minster Dr. Tedros Adhanom visited
Seattle for a meeting with The Gates Foundation; consequently Dr. Tedros
also meet with Ethiopian Americans in Seattle. The meeting was organized
by Ethiopia’s Honorary Council General Solomon Tadesse and was
hosted at the Ethiopian Somali community office. Dr Tedros gave brief
overview of Ethiopia’s effort in building a robust Health system and the
Minster also gave a summary of economic and political development in
Ethiopia.
 
Ethiopians gathered at the event were able to ask questions concerning
Ethiopia’s growing health sector and investment opportunities. Dr.
Tedros discussed in detail the concerns of Ethiopians in the Diaspora.
He stated that his government remains committed to building a democratic
and prospers Ethiopia, hence underlined the governments openness to
engage the Ethiopian Diaspora in that pursuit.
 
The three-hour meeting was conducted in an atmosphere of civility and
respect, the gathered Ethiopians representing the diverse ethnic mix of
the Ethiopian nation.  Many of the attendees expressed satisfaction
with the Ethiopian governments effort to engage the silent majority of
Ethiopians in the Diaspora who are committed to Ethiopia’s
developmental and political successes.  Council General Solomon Tadesse also
expressed his readiness to facilitate a continued dialogue between Ethiopians
in the Seattle area and the Ethiopian Government.The Ethiopian
Commnity tv program Awde Ethiopia will air a program in this event on Saturday
October 27 at 11.00AM Pacific Standard Time.
