EPRDF affiliate organizations came one step closer to be full member of the Front.

The Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front concluded its 6th congress held in Mekelle successfully. The four main organization as well as affiliates and other friendly party representative were also represented. The 6th congress was unique because educators as well as business people were also represented.

After a lengthy and through discussion on the report of the executive body, delegates passed a resolution to improve good governance, maintain the economic growth above 10% and work diligently to recruit youth and female members. During the 5th congress it is to be recalled EPRDF passed a resolution to bring a sustainable fast economic growth. Looking back Ethiopia has sustained an average growth of 9.5% the last three years. Although the growth achieved was satisfactory delegates believed they could have done better and blamed for the lackluster growth on poor governance thus why the front chose good governance as the main theme for the next coming years.

The 6th congress also decided to work very closely with affiliated members such as Benshangule (BGPDUF), Gambela (GPDM), Somali (SPDP), Afar (ANDP) and Harari (HNL).Affiliated organizations and EPRDF agreed to discuss any EPRDF policies before it is enacted. They agreed to put a joint approval on any decisions the Front passes. Sources say this effectively puts the affiliated organizations one small step away from becoming full member.

Delegates were also briefed and discussed thoroughly on the prevailing price pressure on goods as well as shortage of building materials. Delegates agreed for most part the problems were attributed to growth and poor planning. It was noted however the government is doing all it can to alleviate the shortages.

It was also noted the Ethiopian farmer has drastically changed the approach to managing his/her belongings. Today most farmers think about their cattle and produces in terms of its cash value. This may have also contributed to the price pressure it was noted.

The Front unanimously has decided to work on good governance and maintain a healthy growth of the economy. It has also decided to work very hard to recruit future leaders form the youth and work closely with affiliate d organizations clearing the way for full membership to the front in the near future.
