Empty ports a sign of a failed State: the case of Eritrea today!
In a way this clip from Eri TV is a good thing. At least the regime, though still a one man regime, has people who can think a bit ahead. I admit Dr Araya is listing his wish list when it comes to Aseb and Masaw. Aseb and Masaw will remain empty so long Wedi Afom remains at the helm or according to Prime Minister Meles until Eritreans beg Ethiopia to use the ports or says Aseb is for Ethiopia! (refer to Mimi Sebhatu VOA interview with Meles after the last war). The question I have: is Dr Araya begging Ethiopia to use the ports? Who are the “gorebt aditat” (neighbor countries) he is alluding too? I am sure he is not talking about Sudan which has Port Sudan, Djibouti which has Djibouti, Kenya which has Mombassa and Somalia well you know what I mean…
To a large extent Eritreans have been brain washed and indoctrinated about the Red Sea. They have put too much value on having a 1000 km sea shore. It is about time they come to their sense and realize peace and not Red Sea is going to bring them prosperity. They should realize Ethiopia with out a single port of her own has done marvelous in registering consecutive economic growth. Eritrea and its1000 km Red Sea shore will remain dormant for the time to come so long Dr Araya and company remain under the yoke of Isayas Afeworki.

Aboy Sebhat in his recent interview said Eritreans are hard working and if it was not for the one man dictator they could have achieved great success in building their country over the last 16 years. The question I have is how long they have to remain in the doldrums? Watch the clip and see how empty the ports are today. Though Dr Araya said the Red Sea corridor is one of the busiest corridors no merchant or otherwise ships are berthing in Aseb and Masaw! Can you imagine how busy Masaw and Aseb would be today if Ethiopia was using them with her ever growing economy!
