Ethiopian Nations ,Nationalities and People's Day
colorfully celebrated in Los Angeles
The Ethiopian Nation Nationalities and People's Day was colorfully celebrated in Los Angeles on December 16, 2006. Marking the event, the Consulate General of Ethiopia in Los Angeles organized a photo exhibition portraying the rich and diverse culture of Ethiopia's Nation Nationalities, the socio economic development endeavor particularly in road construction, hydro-electric power generation and dam construction as well as current investment, trade and tourism opportunities. Invited guests from different Ethiopian Nation Nationalities as well as Religious Leaders residing in the Los Angeles area were present at the event.
Describing the importance and meaning of this historic national event, Ambassador Taye Aske- Selassie said that this Day was celebrated not only to mark Ethiopia's Unity in Diversity but also to commemorate Ethiopia's Nation Nationalities determination to exercise their democratic right while enjoying equality of Nations and Nationalities.
On the occasion invited guests also exchanged views on the upcoming Millennium Celebration in Ethiopia as well as the current threat & challenges faced by Ethiopia from neighboring Somalia, i.e. the Fundamentalist Union of Islamic Courts.
