COMING OUT OF THE DARK--

               Empowering Ethiopian Women through HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control

 

     The Foundation Against HIV/AIDS (FAHA) is committed to the prevention

                  and control of HIV/AIDS, beginning in Africa and then around the world. 

 

Our History   

--Grew out of a $30,000 grant in 2002 from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International

  to develop a model for6 clinics for HIV/AIDS volunteer counseling and testing in Addis Ababa. 

--Cooperation with Addis Ababa Rotary Clubs and Addis Regional Health Bureau

--35,000 persons served in last 4 years

--40,000 received counseling to prevent transmission of HIV

--Addis Ababa City Health Department using FAHA model in 125 of its HIV/AIDS clinics in 2005

 

Our Goal

--Working with Gondar University Hospital in rural Northwest Ethiopia

--Collaborating with Gondar Development Associations in providing women micro-economic

   Opportunities

--Joining with Devoted Volunteers to train nurse assistants (Certified Nurse Assistants) in Gondar

--Educating girls and boys in primary and secondary schools about HIV transmission

--Working with local communities to increase prevention and control

--Providing palliative care to people living with AIDS

Improve the health and security of Africa by providing a forum for experts from a range of disciplines

 and sectors to develop solutions to pressing problems on the continent.  The Center distinguishes itself from other academic and advocacy groups by integrating diverse academic and policy agendas that drive programmatic action in Africa.
