Former inquiry commission members Challenged in Phoenix, Arizona

(Aigaforum Jan 27, 2007)

Two former members of the Ethiopian independent inquiry commission, Ato Friyhiwot Samuel and Ato Mitiku Teshome, faced a series of challenging questions that were posed by Ethiopians residing in phoenix, Arizona.

In a meeting held on January 25 at Phoenix Public library Colla branch located at Metro Park Way Phoenix, AZ. that was chaired by Ms Hiwot Leykun (aka Jadore-ET), the former members of the inquiry commission were told not to become an instrument of anti-Ethiopian forces that are pulling every string to destabilize Ethiopia.

The first Ethiopian who got the chance questioned Ato Friyhiwot to explain the relationship between them and the Al-Mariam group that is currently working to resuscitate the so called HR-5860 and asked him to explain the legal jurisprudence, precedence and ramification of the draft resolution between two friendly countries that have a close cooperation in fighting international terrorism. The questioner then challenged the inquiry commission member to open their eyes and become conscious not to be used by the hardcore opposition who are hell bent to undermine the national interest of Ethiopia.

Another Ethiopian also demanded that the two former inquiry commission members tell Ethiopians in attendance in all honesty and sincerity the difference between the majority of the inquiry commission who stayed in Ethiopia and submitted their findings to the Ethiopian parliament and those like them who decided to leave the country alleging fear of persecution. After reminding them that it is the Ethiopian Parliament that gave the Commission the full authority and mandated to investigate the riot, he then proceeded to let them know that based on what he has heard so far in the meeting they were holding, there is really nothing new they presented that is not undisclosed in the final report that was submitted to the Ethiopian Parliament. The Ethiopian finally told them that he finds it difficult to understand why Ato Mitiku who has signed every meeting minutes of the Commission and who put his signature on the final report that was submitted to the Ethiopian parliament chose to have a change of heart and leave the country after the fact.

A third Ethiopian said that the two former inquiry Commission members should not have falsified the finding of the inquiry commission for immigration purpose and should stand with integrity with rest of the commission members as it was their sworn jury duty.

Mr. Friyhiwot who has never been faced with these kind of challenges in other meetings he had in various cities became furious and told the attending Ethiopians that if they keep on provoking him, he will make available to the public the recorded conversation he has had with Ethiopian officials. On hearing this innuendo, Ethiopians challenged judge Friyhiwot that they have been hearing rumors for while about these so-called recorded conversation and requested him to make it available at the earliest time possible and make no more excuses.

It is also reported that there has been a scuffle between the so-called chair of the meeting and other members of the "current Affairs group" who attended the meeting
