GOD SAVE ETHIOPIA FROM GANGSTER POLITICS
BY
EZANA SEHAY
Every now and then, I have to remind myself of some things that
ought to be obvious but seems incomprehensible to me all the same.
Namely, that a good many people in the
opposition camp - most of them in fact don’t give a fig about principle. They don’t inhabit a
world in which Policy matters. To them, Politics is strictly about groups or
gangs.
If you are like me, I am sure most
Ethiopians are, you were hoping the extreme opposition would be baptized in the
sprit of the new millennium and come to their senses. But considering the
average chronological age of your average die-hard Diaspora fanatic. The saying
“You can’t teach an
old dog new tricks” fits them perfectly.
Nevertheless, even by their standards the current activity of
these mobster Politicians make one question _ what internation is going on ?
First they are at each others throats over who has the rights to lead the
almost defunct Kinijit (C.U.D). While at the same time their second hand is
aimed at strangulating the poor Ethiopian people , by pushing for their passage of a bill called HR 2003
through the U.S. Legislative bodies. This comedic theatre now showing in the
capital hill is -Developed and written by Dergofascists and terrorists like
ONLF. Directed by the regime in Eritrea Produced / Sponsored by a single
congressman.
Ironically, This bill despite it’s proponents
claims is aimed at punishing the only country in the region which genuinely is
striving to build a democratic system. By their own admission , of the over 300
million the U.S. aid to Ethiopia, only 1.5 Million of it goes to security (
military related ). The rest (99.5%) goes for health care, poverty reduction
programs and capacity building services. Now you can imagine who is to get hurt
by such a bill – It is the poor, sick and struggling ordinary
Ethiopians not the governing party. Don’t get me wrong even it is aimed at the government that
doesn’t make it
right. After all the governing party has proven It’s commitment
to democracy.
But let us put aside partisan politics
and focus on the bill and its sponsors. By the way the bill also ridicules the
80% of the elected members of the opposition who are serving the people in
parliament.
My question then is who in his right
mind would want to harm the people and country. Specially now, When we are
closer than ever to beating our eternal enemy (Poverty) ? t won’t be
difficult to find out who these sworn enemies of the country are. They have
been conspicuously busy working against our national interest for some time
now.
The congressman – Donald
Payne whose constituency in New Jersey is the most crime ridden in the U.S. A
person who doesn’t solve a problems in his own ridding can’t be trusted
to solve problem of other’s. Need proof how ill informed this person is about
the horn of Africa ? He considers
Eritrea a stabilizing country – Need I say more ?
The regime
in Eritrea – this malcontent regime didn’t leave any
stone unturned to destabilize and undermine our country. This is it’s last
attempt before it’s own demise.
The Terrorist
groups – like ONLF – it is obvious for this groups to succeed to dismember
Ethiopia , The country has to be weaken and marginalized – that is
their motto.
Shaebia sponsored Elias Kefle of Ethiopian review – What can I say about this character. He has elevated
the act of banda-ism to a higher level. His mentor ( Isyas Afeworki ) must be
proud.
Frankly, I am not surprised by the
actions of the above actors . Specially the diaspora elements who have shown
their hostility to democratic pluralism. They are bitterly nostalgic for past
administrations. Along with Shaebia they are obsessed with thirsty for revenge
against the governing party. Both are chronically infected with toxin of anti – EPRDF paranoia.
But what is so bizarre and irritating is the activities of C.U.D. , Specially
the G5 ( Berhanu Naga and Company ) Before long, the “ ideal
democratic party” of 4 parties, (C.U.D), creating it’s own
conditions for revolution, looked like foolishness it was from the start.
Without a traitor on which to definitively affix blame, there is no escaping
the obvious. C.U.D. leaders doomed themselves with their misguided romantic
approach to treason.
The leader of G5 ( Berhanu Nega ) has
exposed himself clearly as a practitioner of duplicity since he arrived in the
U.S. He has been doing wrong things
because he’s afraided to do what’s right. This is the characteristic of a small man, by
measure of any souverignst or nationalist. Like all demagogues, he has become
fond of the pronoun “I” in his contradiction with others. This has been
confirmed by the good old professor (Mesfim wedemariam) when he refered to the
book allegedly written by Dr. Berhanu as “ a book by Berhanu about Berhanu “ While his
militant schtick has proven widely popular with the extreme diaspora . It will
prove toxic to his political life in the long run.
When trying to explain his divisive rhetoric and breach of the
amnesty agreement he signed for his release from prison, insiders claim he has
resented the people for not rising up while he was imprisoned and is holding
grudges and is trying to get back at them by allying himself with all the known
anti-Ethiopia groups and pushing for the passage of a bill he knows will have
no binding effect on the government, but will hurt the people.
The flow of the bill doesn’t lie only
on it’s proponents
and target. There is also a fundamental error on which it is based. The bill is
being considered without the proper investigation or study of the state of
Ethiopian democracy. It is based on lies and fabrications provided by people
who are addicted to distortion. This offers proof of Mark Twain’s famous
aphorism that “a lie can travel half way round the world while the
truth is putting it’s shoes on”.
As I mentioned earlier the bill, even if
passed will have very little effect on the government of Ethiopia. But could
shatter an already strained relationship between Washington and Africa. Because
Ethiopia is one of the few countries that can influence the continent, given it’s unique
legacy of Pan-Africanism and Pluralism. The U.S. will have difficulty
protecting It’s national interest if it chooses to play game with
the only true ally it has. After all the U.S.
depends on Ethiopia for its logistic and intelligence in that part of
the world. For the above reasons, We know the bill will never become law. The
U.S. will never should Itself in the foot. After all the U.S. depends on
Ethiopia for logistics and intelligence in the Horn and part of Middle East. For those of you who are celebrating about
this bill. here is a reminder to you – ring a bell
CUBA – an Island
90miles of the coast of Florida. With the help of 2 million anti-Castro Cubans,
the every level of government in the U.S. have passed bill after bill against
the country. Bus as you are well aware Mr. Castro has out lived all his
opponents. Take a lesson, foreign interference never works it only galvanize
Patriotic feelings and help the target government gain popularity.
But If the bill is ineffective and it’s death
certain why all the buzz ?
For the extreme Diaspora elements , who have been beaten year
after year by the Revolutionary Democrats (The Government Party) it gives them
a temporary little solace. For the rest of us. It makes us mad because our
sovereignty and integrity is being threatened by a foreign body for all the
wrong reasons.
That raises the questions – how is an
extreme minority, a bankrupt regime ( Eritrea ) and a second rate congressman
manage to come this far and damaged the country’s reputation ?
Simple.
First, The incredibly vanishing public
relations of the Ethiopian government is to blame. Over the years the failure
of P.R. of the government party have become evident. For example, during the
war against Shaebia and during the 2005 election can be cited. Revolutionary Democrats need to be reminded
how important P.R. ( Propoganda, Promotion of ideas, Lobbying ….) is. They should be told that in the
international arena words litterally speak louder than action. I hope the
government will wake up from it’s nap and get it acts together.
Second, We the silent majority have failed to protect the interest
of our people and country. We have vacated the field of Political game to the
fanatic minority. We can’t afford to pursue a wait and see approach while few
among us are conspiring to destroy what has been achieved so far and hamper our
progress. It is time we stand to protect, fight those who threaten our
sovereignty and National interest.
we can be fairly confident that The
Daispora extremists are playing an unconscious part in arranging for the own
irrelevance in the long run. ut we should always be vigelant and ready to
protect our country when such prey dares to attack it.
Some have suggested forming an EPRDF
support group is the answer. – which is noble. However, I personally prefer an
inclusive non-partisan civic organization whose allegiance is to our people
GOD BLESS THE MOTHER LAND!!
