It is the OIL, Stupid!

G. E. Gorfu

There is no absurdity we may not witness in world politics these days, and this time it seems to have escaped the notice of those who should have screamed loud and cried foul. Khadafy, a onetime “premier terrorist” and “sponsor of world terrorism” who funded and mastermind the downing of Boeing 747 in Lockerbie, Scotland, causing the death of 270 people, and then harbored the criminals who carried it out in Libya for many years, was inducted into UN Security Council. Regan, who attempted to kill Khadafy and bombed his residence and succeeded in killing his daughter, must be turning in his grave.

There is a long history of Libya’s involvement in terrorism from the early days of Carlos the Jackal to the downing of the Pan Am flight 103. So, how does one rehabilitate such a criminal and make him a high priest in the Security Council? Khadafy paid sacrificial lambs, not only his daughter, but also in extraditing the two culprits: Mohmed al-Megrahi and Khalifa Fhimah, the men who carried out the downing of the Boeing 747.

Three sacrificial lambs rehabilitated Khadafy, but there still was a fee before he could be admitted into the Security Council. What fee? Let us remember the Sudan was accused of being a terrorist heaven and bombed during Clinton’s presidency, without much of real evidence. Khadafy paid his dues by accusing the Sudanese government of genocide, while he himself was the main culprit who got the Janjaweed militia out of Chad, armed them, indoctrinated them in phony Arab Nationalism, and sent them into Darfur.

So, the west allowed all the genocide in Darfur to go to on, because of the oil in southern Sudan which is still contracted to the Chinese. They had hoped these killings would help overthrow/destabilize the Sudanese government, and expel the Chinese. It did not work!

Khadafy is accountable to no one and has been in power since the coup d’état of 1969.  Was there ever a general election in Libya? How many independent political parties does Libya have? Is there a parliament with an opposition party? Does Khadafy have transparency in government? Why are Donald Payne and Chris Smith not demanding “transparency” or “accountability” from Libya? Where is their HR Bill against Khadafy? And have our educated elites asked any of these questions when helping draft HR2003?

But questions like this only fall on deaf ears of Donald Payne and Chris Smith, and some paid traitors of our beloved Ethiopia. Many media journalists in the west failed to ask these questions, but seem to watch quietly as the circuses of events overtook them and they sat as demure onlookers at the UN in New York. So, the world witnessed the incredible and sad event of Libya getting a seat in the Security Council. How sad!

How could they turn a blind eye to all these atrocities over all these years? Is there a conspiracy? There may be no conspiracy, but they all seem to have a common interest, Need. And the simple answer is: need for – Oil! If there was no oil in Libya, the result would be quite another matter. Khadafy would have remained the pariah that he really is.

Now, one may begin to understand why the UK allows the ONLF, a terrorist organization responsible for killing 76 people in cold blood in the Ogaden, to freely reside and give press release from London. Is it not because the Chinese have oil drilling contracts with Ethiopia? Let our educated elites who helped to draft HR 2003 wake up to reality.
