In a written statement submitted to his office in Oklahoma City, the demonstrators acknowledged the depth and breadth of Senator Inhofe’s extraordinary understanding of the actual situation in Ethiopia as well as the entire horn of Africa. Senator Inhofe’s wisdom, the statement went on, provides a role model for some of the detached, shallow and bloated politicians and political activists in the United States.
The Ethiopian Americans thanked the Senator for courageously saying “No” to the unscrupulous bill many believe would do more harm than good to the long-standing relations of the United states and Ethiopia, especially to their strong partnership in the fight against international terrorism.
Draped in the Ethiopian tri-color and American stars and strips, the demonstrators chanted slogans and carried placards that read, “Thank you Senator Inhofe for supporting Ethiopia!” “Thank you Senator Inhofe for supporting democracy and development in Ethiopia!” “HR 2003 emboldens terrorists, punishes a US ally!” and “Long live USA, long live Ethiopia, long Live Senator Inhofe!”
