Noisy UN and AU, You Should Thank Ethiopia For Doing Your Job

No matter how much noise the Arab League or no matter how much noise from different corner of the world and including Ethiopian political oppositions, no matter how interventionist and diplomatic theoreticians predict, or how much the AU or the monotonous U.N. told Ethiopia to withdrew from Somalia; all of them, the U.N and AU were been passive spectators to outrages and massacres, in Rwanda, Sudan (even in Somalia) regardless they claimed they sent peacekeeping forces to protect extremists and war lords from harming neighboring countries and local peaceful civilians. In many war and conflict zones, not only the UN was passive spectator; at worst, they collaborate with it too.
To go to Somalia to hunt these extremists and subdued them to the label where they can’t be enlarged into 60 –foot two-headed snakes as big as ponderosa pine from threatening the peaceful existence of Ethiopian Christians and moderate Islam Ethiopians is recommendable, timely and credit should go to Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia. Most of all, you! the noisy UN and the monotonous AU should thanks Meles Zenawi for doing your job.
Somalia is anarchy, it is been known for all for many years now. Neither the religion Islam or the theoretician Somali elites with PhD had made impact to bring peace and stability to the Somali people. Particularly the Somali elites who reside in the West are absolutely artificial sweetener, a cosmetic gift to the Somali people who failed miserably on the poor Somali. Pretty dpressing! They know that the Somali people were been neglected for years by them and the show was going on by warlords and army elements and elite thugs. Knowing and witnessing their parents and families and their country besieged by these evil sectors; sadly the educated Somalis simply abandoned the conflict and left the vacuum for fifteen years to be decided by anyone including to be decided by neighboring Ethiopia-Meles Zenawi. Sadly, some of the Somali scholars and professors of higher institutions were playing the act of an observer’ s mission instead of taking the lead and the initiations to stop the misery and conflict once for all. Now, after Ethiopia started to react to the growing threats by the extremists and secessionists using the Somalia ground to harm Ethiopia with no one to restrict them, - ironically, the so called educated Somali elites started to blame Ethiopia for aggression. Once they let their people for the thugs to control them, abandoned and neglect their land and chose to live comfortably eating their hot delicious cakes in Manhattan, SFO, Paris and London cafe, then, they have no one to blame. They are the once to be blamed before Meles or anyone else for anything. They (the educated Somali-elites) should have stay there and seal the vacuum for no FOREIGNERS OR EXTREMISTS or secessionist from Ethiopia to play. Once the extremists and terrorists’ scramble for turf to attack Ethiopia and the Somali people, then Meles has no alternative but to break their spine for good from posing a threat and stretching too far distances. We expect from the Somali elites and the so-called Ethiopian political oppositions better than being noisy. (By the way I am one of the opposition who opposed Meles in his other actions)
In the last fifteen years enemies of Ethiopia, thus lists from terrorists to secessionist groups were using the vacuum left in Somalia to attack Ethiopia. The AU or the UN did very limit almost nothing to stabilize Somalia or halt the threat of the Talibznize style draconian religious thugs. The UN as we know keeps vacillate its words and positions wasting time in many issues. Its latest position to tell Ethiopia to get out from Somalia without delay is stupid to say the least. Even for Meles to agree with such stupidity is in itself naïve. Peace talks among anyone take hold only when war is truly over. As far as my concerns in order the war to truly be over, the noisy AU or UN must take over without delay and relieve the Ethiopian army from such honorable responsibility. But I know these institutions are good only for noise.
I criticize these noisy institutions because as you know a variety of multilateral organizations now make it their business to intervene in other peoples’ wars. The defining characteristics of these entities is what they insert themselves in war situations while refusing to engage in combat. The UN or the AU was taking the fanatic Islamic thugs force as a strong political entity (the strength by the way is beheading of civilians and women). Because of such perception (draconian-strength), these institutions tolerated its abuse since May 2007. The problem with this naiveté has its own source. The UN or the AU’ s goal is avoidance bloodshed to protect their peacekeeping continents. To avoid causality is their priority. Therefore, as Edward N.Luttwalk (Give War a Chance) putted it “the unit commanders therefore habitually appease the “locally” stronger force, accepting its dictates and tolerating its abuse”. (He is talking about the U.N peacekeeping contingents).
Edward, continued saying “the very presence of U.N. forces, meanwhile, inhibits the normal remedy of endangered civilians which is to escape from the combat zone. Deluded into thinking that they will be protected, civilians to danger remain in place until it is too late to flee..” With such records and performance is what the noisy and the muscle-less A.U. and the noisy U.N. telling Ethiopia to pull out its troops as if they are ready to take over the place of the Ethiopian troops to keep down the destructive forces of the thuggish Talibnic Somalia.
Although war is a great evil, …said Edward N. Luttwalk “ an pleasant truth overlooked is that although war is a great evil, it does have a great virtue. It can resolve political conflicts and lead to peace is. This can happen when all belligerents become exhausted or when one wins decisively. Either way the key is that the fighting must continue until a resolution is reached. War brings peace only after passing a culminating phase of violence. Hopes of military success must fade for accommodation to become more attractive than further combat. …. Wars among lesser powers have rarely been allowed to run their natural course, instead, they have typically been interrupted early on, before they could burn themselves out and establish the preconditions for a lasting settlement.” Indeed such similarity is been seen in Somalia. The A.U. and U.N. are asking Ethiopia to withdraw without delay: - this demand was pose while the Ethiopian forces were chasing the Thuggish Talibanic Somalia forces half way into the battle to Mogadishu. What Edward N. Luttwalk said above is what many of us were saying when the U.N and A.U demanded without any plan and strategy to halt the battle immediately halfway done. “…But a cease fire tends to arrest war-induces exhaustion and lets belligerents reconstitute and rearm their forces. It intensifies and prolongs the struggle once the cease-fire ends – and does usually end….. Each time the, the opponents used the pause to recruit, and equip additional forces for further combat, prolonging the war and widening the scope of its killing and destruction. Imposed armistices, meanwhile again, unless followed by negotiated peace accord-artificially freeze conflict and perpetuate a state of war indefinitely by shielding the weaker side from the consequences of refusing to make concessions for peace. ..So the unfortunate consequences of interrupting war persist while no greater danger is averted. It might be best for all parties to let minor wars burn themselves out.” The Noisy U.N. and the monotonous A.U. should now better than that of the “café club” for Somalia and Eritrea calling itself “Arab League”. You the Noisy U.N. and the A.U. either relieve the Ethiopian forces and take responsibility of halting anti Ethiopian cessationists and terrorists from hurting Ethiopia or stop being the barking dog for the Arab League against Ethiopia.//-//
