The eventual massacre of the seventy-four Ethiopian and Chinese oil field workers in Ogaden region should be remembered as a dark day for Ethiopia

Dear Ethiopian compatriots,

The recent massacre of the seventy-four Ethiopian and Chinese oil field workers at Ogaden Oil Field Exploration Site by the so-called Ogaden Liberation (ONLF) is very devastating and humiliating. Even what is very upsetting and vexing is that in the BBC Somali Radio programme it was propagated and popularised as a heroic act. The massacre carried out by the ONLF has very damaging effect and impact on the over all future investments, projects and other tourist attraction schemes intended by the Ethiopian government.

Much has been said about the terrorist actions and Eritrea being a prominent player. The Alquaida infiltrators and the remnants of the Islamic Court are creating havoc and anarchic situation in Somalia. The internal fifth columnists like the ONLF, AFD, EPPF, and OLF etc are also massacring innocent people and destructing developmental projects. What can be done over the split milk? Is there any means of remedying the situation and its after math consequential? What is the best way to tackle such boggy and diabolic situation?

Nevertheless, the groundwork and effective handling of the situation has not been effectively executed, it is halfway completed? Eritrea since its inception as independent state with its anarchic leaders has not grown up and developed as a responsible member state but it has become a failed state. Eritrea has become a prominent actor of destabilisation and destruction. According to the UN report, Eritrea had despatched massive quantities of military machineries, various armaments and some high ranked military experts were also sent in support of the extreme union of Islamic Court in Mogadishu before the TFGS and the Ethiopian ally forces defeated them. Eritrea is still a melting centre for terrorists, like the remnants of the Somali Islamic Court, separatists, and so called Ethiopian opposition groups. Eritrea recruits and arms any group that would battle against Ethiopia. Eritrea is a storehouse for all supplies of armaments and ammunitions for those who are actively engaged in dismembering Ethiopia.

The present Eritrean government is fully committed and pledged to dismember the Ethiopian Federal State and paralyse its whole economic set up and infrastructures. Eritrea through its surrogates, so called liberation fronts is determined to strike at any opportune time on any significantly important infrastructures like power installations, mining and oil field exploration fields, communication networks, all means of transport and its facilities. Moreover, Eritrea will not miss any opportune time from targeting and endangering any prominent public figures and key military personnel.

Eritrea does not recognise the importance of diplomacy and policy of peacefully co-existing with its neighbours, regional and international organisation member States. At any time it can pull out from the regional intergovernmental organisation like –IGAD or it can remain aloof and indifferent to continental organisation like the AU and the like. Its leaders and policy makers do not even know the language of diplomacy and mutual understanding. They are used to abusive language and always lack any sense of courtesy and honour. The UN charter does not govern the Eritrean state; for the State does not respect conventional traditional values and customary principles.

Practically, Eritrea to greater extent is anarchic and it is acting like a failed state with out guiding principles and state policies.

So how do you co-exist with a state whose priority is not for peaceful and friendly co-existence?

How do you cope with a state that cries for twenty hours for wars and only wars?

How do you make an agreement with a state that does not understand the very essence of agreement?

Whom are you appealing to about the state that does not respect and live according the tenets and ideals of the world governing body, the UN?

Whom are you negotiating with about international issues and border settlement; if the state you are dealing with is not serious enough and prepared for peaceful political settlement?

On my part I do not have any conclusive answer for such puzzling questions and I leave it open to any genuine Ethiopian or farsighted Eritrean national for resolute answer.

Thank you,

Debekulu
