Open letter to the Ethiopian government
I am writing to express my anger and frustration over Ethiopian government particularly its Embassies' silence and indifferent when Ethiopian citizens who live around the World are harassed, terrorized, intimidated by a thugs, ex-derg and people who have no remorse and did not repent for their actions- i.e. liquidation of one generation and destruction of the nation.
Ideally, Embassies are supposed to serve citizens, protect their right and interest wherever they live in addition to diplomatic work. What I am observing is that Ethiopian citizens are left alone for thugs intimidated and harass them just because they have different point of view about their country.
For example in US, The embassy should have take the case to homeland Security, State department, local police to show what is going on in Ethiopian Community. They should tell American government what the so-called oppositions are doing in their own land, America.
Mind you, America and Europe, the land of rule of law, the oldest democracies are being used to harass peacefull Ethiopians citizens.. Can any one with right mind tell me how it is possible this group will respect the right of man and women if they get power in Ethiopia when they cannot do it living as an immigrant in a nation that has democratic values and culture? Their action is a self-evident what kind of Ethiopia will be if they got a chance. The good thing is that Ethiopia has changed forever. Changing government in Addis no longer equal to changing government in Ethiopia.
I too want change in Ethiopia, I am not happy with everything what EPRDF did and its polices on many areas. But, I do not want a thug and criminals who destroyed the nation and killed a generation to take away my rights again. I want forward not backward progress.
It is time for Ethiopian Government to show that it cares about its citizens who live outside of their home. It should not seek only their money, it should stand with them and protect them. Prove it.
Desta Takele Asnake.
