(Aigaforum) Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met leaders of opposition parties and discussed ways to enhance the democratization process. Building on the theme of President Girma opening speech in parliament last week where he outline the governments plan for the coming year the prime minister met opposition leaders and earned an agreement from all opposition parties to work together in  building a multiparty system.

Prime Minister Meles will address parliament tomorrow. The premier will present his government’s plan and a concluding remark. Parliamentarians have been discussing the governments plan.

Prime Minister Meles also met separately with EDUP-Medhin, Kinijit Neber, OFDM, ONC and Dr Beyene group (Hibiret). Representing EPRDF, Meles discussed with Ato Ledetu, Ato Muse, Ato Abdurahiman and Ato Mesfin from EDUP-Medhin on how to build a multiparty society. Both EPRDF and EDUP-Medhin have agreed to respect the constitution and to work together to maintain peace.

Representing Kinijit Neber Pm Meles met with Ato Temesgen, Ato Ayele, Ato Kashaun and Ato Mohammed. Both EPRDF and Kinijit Neber agreed to remain loyal to the constitution. The premier mentioned that as a loyal opposition they can not have it both ways, mixing illegal activities with peaceful means. The representative regretted for what has happened before and agreed to work together with EPRDF for peace and development.

Representing OFDM and Hibret were Dr Beyene, Ato Bulcha and Dr Merara. The representative thanked PM Meles for the invitation and all agreed to work for peace and to cease illegal activities. Ato Bulcha mentioned that his organization is not an extension of the OLF and will support the government for any measure taken against the OLF. Dr Beyene asked the premier to be allowed to organize freely and mentioning that there are obstacles in that front. Dr Merara complained the EPRDF has sided with the splinter group from his organization.

The democratization process is in full gear and the government as well the governing party is willing to work with loyal oppositions. Ethiopia becoming home to real multi party society is upon us.
