Professor Desta Asayehgn was one of The Distinguished Professor Award recipient at Dominican University.


Months ago, Aiga had featured Dr. Desta Asayehgn as a generous philanthropist who had donated US $30,000.00 to build Wood and Metal Workshops in the region of Tigrai. And today, Aiga is extremely happy to congratulate Dr. Desta for The Distinguished Professor Award he received from Dominican University. Dr Desta received his delayed award on September 12, 2006.

Dear Dr. Desta, you are a role model to our community and Aiga hopes our community, particularly our youths, will benefit and learn from this outstanding achievement. Congratulations to you and to your family.

Distinguished Professor Award
The Distinguished Professor Award is a lifetime achievement award for a professor who has brought distinction to Dominican University. The recipient of this honor is someone who has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance as a teacher has offered significantly to his/her community through his/her generosity of spirit and has served as a prominent leader in an academic or professional area. Nominations may come from any member of the college community: faculty, students, staff, and administrators.

Candidates include any faculty member, Chair, or Dean who holds the rank of full professor, who has been employed full-time at the University for a minimum of 12 years and who:
  • . Is an outstanding teacher fulfilling the criteria of the Teacher of the Year: Makes a discernible difference in the lives of students and the campus climate through inspiring teaching and mentoring; Is a model classroom teacher, diligent, creative, and successful in teaching methodology and course development; Is respected and admired by students and colleagues for consistently superior teaching;
  • . Has brought distinction to Dominican University of California in at least two of the following ways: Research, publication, and/or scholarship Community service Leadership of a distinguished academic program
  • . Has served as a significant leader as recognized by colleagues at Dominican University of California, and peers outside of the immediate University community, as having made significant contributions to their respective academic and/or professional area.
  • . Is generous of spirit and has consistently given his or her time and energy with both colleagues and students.
  • . Has fostered students’ intellectual and professional development through the liberal arts.
  • . Has contributed to furthering the University’s appreciation of cultural diversity and global interdependence through interdisciplinary initiatives.
