Dear Gebrye:

It sounds like you are proclaiming yourself as an educated individual. And as an educated individual, I am sure you have learned in school that you are supposed to back your analysis (in this case investigative journalism) with factual data. I have lived in a European country for a long time and I want to challenge some the points you made.

The first is, you said you are told by the official at the DED that there are so many vacancies that "The vacancies are still out there in our website and almost no native German is interested in these jobs". This simply does not hold true in a country whose unemployment rate stands at 9% (and that is the lowest in 14 years and one of the highest in Europe) that no German would like to work on the DED projects. In fact, these jobs are considered to be financially lucrative that there is a waiting period (for native Germans) of up to 3yrs to have an opportunity to work outside Germany. So logic dictates that this statement is either fabricated or the lady there is so annoyed by your nagging that she may have said it just to get you guys to stop calling her. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

The other point which does not make sense at all is, why are all those MBAs and PHDs go to the Labor office? Are you saying they all are unemployed and the only place they can work is at DED or GTZ? IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

How come Germans (native or Ethiopian decent) demand explanation from the GTZ or DED when they as a citizen are being discriminated against by their own agencies? If this is the only explanation they get, how come they did not sue them? Isn't it the DED and GTZ that are discriminating here from a German citizen's perspective? The Ethiopian government is not hiring here? It just doesn't make sense. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

On a more technical note, what research have you done to answer the following questions before you fabricate or take Frau Ratke's word at face value?

1.     The total number of Ethiopian "educated" applicants

2.     The total number of native German applicants?

3.     What percent of the total are rejected and for what reason?

4.     Are there any Ethiopians or Germans of Ethiopian origin working for these organizations? If, so how many?

5.     If there are Ethiopians, are they assigned to other countries?

6.     Have you inquired about the Ethiopian gov't side of the story?

7.     Have you tried to sue these agencies for discrimination?

If you have not done at the minimum these basic empirical studies before you come to the conclusion "Frau Ratke said so and it must be true", no wonder your application is denied time and time again. Even if you get hired it is doubtful that you would do anything productive.
