(TDA NC, July 2006):-As many of you know TDA International have tasked it self to build many of the ninety elementary schools the state of Tigray needs to build in order to achieve maximum coverage in elementary education. For most part the remaining schools will cover remote areas in the region. Tigreans and friends of Tigray in North America have pledged to build 14 of these schools so far.

TDA Northern California branch in cooperation with the Bay Area Tigrean Community has pledge to build one elementary school in Asgde Tsimbla, in Western Tigray. On June 30, 2006 members of TDA Northern California (TDA-NC) were fortunate enough to be present at the ground breaking ceremony. The school when completed in the coming year would serve a very needy community. In its first year under a tree shade there were over one hundred students. The school got started because the nearest school for the area has been a half day walk. Though the environment was not at all conducive for the learning process nearly all students finished their first year. The heat along with all the distraction of open classroom has been a challenge. Thanks to the Bay Area Tigrean Community members and supporters who donated money, in a year, students will be able to sit inside a normal class room. The school will have a four classroom along with other rooms.

TDA-NC urges members who have not paid their pledge to do so. Collecting all the money pledged on time will help expedite the building process so that the school can be ready on time.

This blessed idea needs to be supported and we urge all Diaspora Ethiopians to help their respected community where ever they are. Winning the illiteracy war will go a long way in helping a stable and democratic Ethiopia. Collectively we can make a huge dent on illiteracy rate in Ethiopia!
