Update On Court Proceedings: Penalty Recommendation

(Aigaforum June 27, 2007)_As you recall on June 4, 1999 the court passed its guilt verdict on the jailed Kinijit leaders and others charged with the same cases. The court then instructed defendants and the prosecutor to file their recommendation on the penalty before June 20, 1999.

Our latest information coming from our reliable source indicates the State has filed its recommendation today June 20, 1999. Although no one knows for sure what the recommendation/s are, according to experts our source talked, the penalty for such cases could range from long term prison to death sentence according to the Ethiopian penal code. The expert thinks the prosecutors may have used this clause in the penal code to strengthen the penalty.

There was no new development on Prof Efrem effort. This could be a clue all may have signed on the dotted line. The extreme Diaspora who predicted release date and all kind of rumors should have come out and say sorry but we know they know no shame!
