“ንጉስ ቢሏቸው በመሃሉ”

ንጉሰ ነገስት አፄ ዮሃንስ ከዙፋን ይልቅ የሀገር ድንበር ማስጠበቅ መርጠው መተኪያ የሌለው ውድ ህይወታቸውን አሳልፈው ሲሠጡ፤

 

“... ንጉስ ቢሏቸው በመሃሉ

ወሰን ጠባቂ ልሁን አሉ።” ተብሎ እንደተለቀሰላቸው ይታወሳል።

 

ታድያ ለአሁኑ ንጉስ፦

 

አፄ አብይ ሞኝ ናቸው

እኛም ሁላችን ናቅናቸው፤

ንጉስ ቢሏቸው በመሃሉ

ተጓዥ መንገደኛ ልሁን አሉ።

 

ብዬ ብኮርጅ በኮፒ ራይት ወይም ንጉስን በመዝለፍ እከሰስ ይሆን? ቁም-ነገር ግን፦ እንደሚወራው ጠ/ሚ አብይ ኤርትራ ከገቡ፤ “ትልቁ ዳቦ ሊጥ ሆነ” እንደሆኑብኝ ማረጋገጫ ነው። ለምን ግን መጀመርያ የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚንስትራቸውን አስመራ ድረስ በመላክ የኢሳያስን አፀፋ ቢመልሱ የተሻለ ይሆናል የሚላቸው መካሪ አጡ ወይስ ምክር አይሰሙም? ከዚያ አንዳቸው መሪ የሌላውን አገር በይፋ የሥራ ጉብኝት የሚያደርጉበት ጥሪ ቀርቦና ስምምነት ተደርሶ ውይይታቸውን ማካሄድ ይቻላል።

 

“Effective Negotiation” ከሚል በዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪነት ዘመኔ በወሰድኩት elective course, “Don’t look desperate to reach a deal as your rival would take advantage of that to play tough” የምትል ምክር ብጤ አስታውሳለሁ።

 

አረ በ formal academic course ተረጋገጠ እንጂ ገና ልጅ እያለሁ ወላጆቼ በየፊናቸው ግብይት ሲፈፅሙ ያየሁትና ያስተዋልኩት ነው። እናቴ እንጨት ይሁን ከሰል በአህያ ጭኖ የመጣውን እቤት የነበራት ሊያልቅ እንደደረሰና ገበያ ከመሄድ እንዳዳናት በማብሰር ሳይሆን፤ ከፈለግክ ሽጥ ካልፈለግክ ተወው በሚል አቀራረብ ነበር ያዋጣል በምትለው ዋጋ የምትፈልገውን ዕቃ እጇ ውስጥ እምታስገባው።

 

አባቴም እንደዚሁ ለዓመት በዓል በቤታችን ከሚያልፍ ነጋዴ በግ ሲገዛ “እሰይ ከገበያ ግርግር አዳንከኝ!” ብሎ ነጋዴውን በማኮፈስ ሳይሆን፤ “እዚያ ገበያ ሄጄ እኮ የተሻለ በግ በተሻለ ዋጋ አላጣም” በማለት ቀብረር ብሎ፤ በቃ ተወው ብሎ ፊቱን ሲመልስ ነበር “ባሉት ዋጋ ይውሰዱት” ይባል የነበረው።

 

ለጉራማይሌው ፅሁፌ ይቅርታ እየጠየቅኩ፤

 

If anyone thinks my analogy is too simplistic, I’d be the first to admit that it surely is. But, in my defense, I’d argue that it’s b/c the PM is “making me do it” by his coming up with simplistic solution ideas to highly complex problems.

Fact is, good will alone and a “let’s all sit around the campfire [or stand at Meskel Square]; hold hands, and sing kumbaya” outcry is not a solution to Ethiopia’s complex and multifaceted problems. Had good will backed by sensational speech been the answer, peace would indeed have prevailed in the country by now. But that certainly is far from the case.

 

In many parts of the country – including the incumbent PM’s Region that enabled him to run for parliament and eventually become leader of the country – there is the absence of peace and violence. People are being targeted for their ethnicity and displaced from their homes and communities they lived in for years, if not generations.

 

So, it makes perfect sense and would be in the best interest of the country for the PM to solve his internal problems first before trying to reach out to a neighboring country. As failing to do so or doing the opposite would be tantamount to the Amharic “የራስዋ አሮባት የሰው ታማስላላች” proverb.

 

To that end, the Ethio-Eritrea conflict should never be addressed in haste and ought not to be used as a partisan strategy to score brownie points against rival political figures or parties as that would be nothing more than coming up with a band-aid solution to a highly complicated problem that requires critical lifesaving surgery.
