To achieve enduring change strong leaders who lead by example, embodying the cultural traits and leadership’s attributes are always necessary. But leadership isn’t just a title or seniority – it needs to be demonstrated at all levels. That means top leadership have a critical role in bringing their organization’s leadership strategy to life, to ‘walk the leadership talk’. Strong leaders are expected to lead by example, embodying the culture to which the organization they serve aspires.
Abreha Desta, the leader of the Arena Tigray for Democracy & Sovereignty has recently been on a spree of facebook posts that effectively reveal his personal leadership attributes. In the midst of ambiguity and polarized political environment, sadly, it seems he has simply descended back to the egoistic goal of shortest path of grabbing power. That is instead of courageously rising to guide and empower Arena and the Tigrayan people, he has rather chosen to align with the forces that advocate the total annihilation of T.P.L.F. It is not very clear from his posts that he does not grasp the full extent of the matrix of forces at play nor have a taste of the Tigrayans' courage and resilience. How pity for him to say that he hadn’t paid much attention to the recent demonstrations held throughout Tigray (Walta interview).
If Arena Tigray has a leadership strategy that ensures its leaders lead by example, embodying in all respects the culture to which Arena aspires; then it’s time for Arena Tigray to re-examine the impact of Abreha’s wiseacre-ing.
Arena Tigray must ask what kind leader the party wants and what the party is doing right now to make that happen; if the party is serious of contributing positively to the political landscape of Tigray. This means a leadership that is able to represent the party and able to influence through clear communication and well articulated arguments. Not a Trump style like tweeting posts.
Arena Tigray's current leader Abreha Desta's below the standard for public party leadership services standard. Effective leaders model their organization’s values and set the tone for their party and people they aspire to lead. They promote the kind of culture that inspires people to do their best. Fostering a positive political environment is critical to inspiring and motivating others to engage with the expected values and behaviors.
Abreha Desta's spree of recent posts clearly demonstrates a somewhat muddled standard of behavior and inconsistent commitment to change through the ballot box. Antagonizing sentiments and thinking the abolition of an opponent candidate is an end by itself is not testimony of a leader than is sensibly managing and building an alternative political force. Arena by name is grand. As the below snippets of posts demonstrate Abreha Desta, given the lapse of time that he has been in the arena lacks the stamina and wisdom to execute the strategies of Arena and represent the party and the people the party represents through well articulated and compelling reason.
Arena or TPLF, the people of Tigray deserve leaders who are high performing and modeling personal integrity and efficiency. It's time for Arena to revisit its current leadership attributes as a prerequisite foundation for its leaders to embody and manifest. Wild extrapolations and unrealistic propositions such as "ባሁኑ ሰዓት የትግራይ ህዝብ ከህወሓት በላይ ጠላት የለውም" say more than what can be written.

"እዚ ኹሉ ኣብ ልዕሊ ተጋሩ ዝበፅሕ ዘሎ በደል ብሰንኪ ህወሓት እዩ። ህወሓት ኣብ ስልጣን እንተቀፂላ ስቃይ ተጋሩ ክቅፅል እዩ። ውሽጥኻ ምፍታሽ ኣገዳሲ እዩ። It is so!!!" November 27
"የህወሓት ካድሬዎች ሆድ እንጂ ጭንቅላት የላቸውም" ብያቹ ነበረ።" November 27
"ባሁኑ ሰዓት የትግራይ ህዝብ ከህወሓት በላይ ጠላት የለውም። ሌላ ጠላት እንዳለ በማስመሰል ህዝብ እንዳይረጋጋ የሚያደርጉት የስልጣን ዕድሜያቸው ለማራዘም ነው። ሌላ ጠላት ከመጣ አብረን እንታገለዋለን። አሁን ያለው ብቸኛ ጠላት ግን ህወሓት ነው። ለትግራይ ህዝብ ሰላም፣ ፍትሕ፣ አንድነትና እኩልነት ሲባል ሁላችን ለትግራይ ህዝብ የምንቆረቆር ሰዎች ፀረ ህወሓት መነሳት ይኖርብናል።" November 30
