The story of Emama Etenat, a model farmer!!!!!!

A woman farmer, resides some 42 Km far from Gondar in Wegera woreda Amba Giorgies Keble managed to attract the attention of the Amhara region higher officials and Pm Meles. The reason was her dedication and hard work to fight poverty. Her motto was” let us make poverty a history” which coincides with the basic vision of EPRDF.Wo_Etenat.bmp

From the video, one can see how fast the life hood of the farmers is transforming to a higher level at a very fast rate. She benefited an access to electricity, telephone and managed to send her three children to a higher education. By dedicating herself to a hard work, she became a role model to the whole region and at one time she got a chance even to travel to India with other senior agriculture experts.

Finally ,while the diehard Diaspora antidevelopment groups are trying to underestimate the economic development which Ethiopia is achieving ,most Ethiopians are battling to make poverty a history .Back home ,people are more concerned how to improve their life and be part of the development agenda outlined by EPRDF.

Youth and Politics and Reporter Coverage

The Ethiopian government has done itself and the country a whole lot good with the recent epic Youth gathering in Addis. The youth came from all walks of life from all corners of the country.

PM Meles addressed most of the youth concerns and empowered the youth to do all in their power to make the coming election a democratic and peaceful one. Realizing election 2005 after a peaceful pre and Election Day turned to become a sad day for all Ethiopia. The youth was in the middle of the turmoil and the Premier was correct to urge the youth no matter which party you [youth] support the youth must not be used as a tool.

However some remarks from the "independent" media (Reporter) questions the independence of the youth that was gathered in Addis. This in our mind is a cheap shot. What is an independent youth? One cannot be oblivious to an ongoing illegal activity and do nothing in the name of "I" am independent? The Primer asked the youth to know the rights from wrongs and not be a pawn in the power struggle. It empowered the youth to take matters in to their own hands and question the wisdom of political leaders who want to tarnish elections and cause unrest and havoc?

So what is the Reporter saying when it says is the youth an independent? Even if we assume all the youth gathered were EPRDF supporters, wasn’t the message one that is good for the country? Good for the opposition?

An informed youth is what Ethiopia needs these days more than ever. With the ever increase in information commercializing Ethiopia’s youth can be easily used to be a tool for all kind crooked politicians. The youth be they an EPRDF supporters or EDP supporters they should be told again and again to be on guard. The independent card is over played and over used. Even the Reporter is questioned if it is an independent media any more…yemelush betisemi gebya balwetash is what comes to mind!. But we could care less if Report is independent or not, for we know “independent” is an oxymoron these days. What matter is if Reporter is serving the public in its own way independent or not or misinforming? Have your say!

What next for Somalia?

As we all know Somalia has been a trouble spot almost since it gained its independence. Although there was some resemblance of peace during the Ziad Barre government everyone knows today’s trouble started during Ziad’ government. Now that Ethiopia has completed its withdrawal from Somalia, after defeating the extreme fanatic groups that declared a Jihad war on Ethiopia what will happen to Somalia? Will the new president, president Sharif help improve or exacerbate the situation? What will the new force reconfiguration look like, will Al shebaba get strength? Will Asmara declare its support to Al Shebaba and Aweys to derail the Sharif government? And what do you think Ethiopia role should be and what has Ethiopia gained with its intervention in Somalia? Have your Say.

To help start the dialogue one of our trusted reader emailed us the following (with some edit)On Ethiopia Regarding current Somali issue, I believe EPRDF should be happy and optimistic because

1- We have divided the Islamists into various sections

2- We can go into Somalia and destroy any enemy, any day, anytime

3- In 2006, there was no power sharing deal like the one we saw in Djibouti agreement, which is done with the sacrifice of Ethiopia for the TFG to be more inclusive.

4- Unlike the pro-Eritrea Aweys, Sheikh Sharif has showed interest to peace with neighbors and stayed away from expansionist Somalia policies.

5- Sheikh Sharif seems more willing to tackle extremists

So I believe, we all should publicly state that Ethiopia has been successful in these specific ways as well.
