Please, accept my commentary to you on the latest defection of an army general by the name Gelchi. I know many were upset... However, I see it differently.
In fact, the recent defection of an army general to the Shaebia/OLF camp is a blessing to Ethiopia under disguise. First, I reacted to it angrily and blamed the leadership of the Ethiopian government like many others. I thought this was a manifestation of the weakness of the Ethiopian army and by extension that of the Ethiopian Government. I listened to the defecting general's interview and read a lot of things between the lines that changed my perception and the strength/might of the Ethiopian army in general and its organization in particular.
Thus, what you see beneath the surface of the defection, in reality, is the opposite of weakness - the mightiness/strength of Ethiopia. I will give you two scenarios how I reached at this conclusion. First, the recent defection is a testimony to shaebia's weak military capability to fight Ethiopia. If shaebia had the will and might to take on the Ethiopian army, it would have further infiltrated the army command center through OLF sympathizers and recruits and to prepare the ground for the next war. Yes, shaebia would have forced its spies to stay within the army until such time it deems right/necessary to ignite war. Contrary to its wishes, however, the OLF recruited general failed to meet shaebia's desperate needs for military espionage and other military secretes. Thus, he had to leave as early as possible before he falls to the trap of the Ethiopian military organization (gemgam or self-criticism and other performance review measures). Second, the general's desire for promotion to higher positions within the military and the government's denial (according to government reports) to fulfill his demands shows how the Ethiopian military intelligence became inaccessible to shaebia/OLF and how desperately shaebia/OLF encouraged their guy (the general) to make it all the way to the top of the military to access military intelligence. Another evidence why the Ethiopian army has eluded shaebia's intelligence is due to the fact that Ethiopia has learned a lot from the Ethio-Eritrea war in the late 90s. After the invasion of Badme and Ethiopia's consequent counter offensive under "Operation sunset" a year later, shaebia was humiliated and Badme liberated once and for all. Yes, right after the liberation of Badme, if you remember what happened at the Zerona front? The Ethiopian army launched the first offensive at the Zerona front in 1999.... Do you know what happened? The army was forced to retreat from the plains of Hazemo, even though the Ethiopian army fought heroically destroying many of Shaebia's well dug heavy fortresses. Rumor had it, the offensive did not succeed due to infiltration of the army command centers by OLF/Shaebia recruits (Oromo Officers). That was a great lesson to the Ethiopian army intelligence and to shut its doors forever to the enemy --- shaebia.
It is with the above points, that I wold like to conclude that the Ethiopian army is as strong as ever and Eritrea weak! The defection of the army general is in fact a sign of mightiness and superiority of the Ethiopian army over shaebia's army. Therefore, the only options left for shaebia is to leak its wounds and stir chaos in Somalia until its gradual death under its own weight sets in!

Let Ethiopia further strengthen its armed forces!

Isayas and his sole private company Sha'ebya are ready at any opportune time to invade and attack Ethiopia when they make sure that Ethiopia is dead and defeated by the politically myopic and reactionary internal seventh columnists like the ONLF, EPPF, OLF, SLFetc...Hence, it is not the time to indulge hastily in boggy situations but to look and weigh conditions that would enable you to come out victorious from all entanglements and all war fronts. Our epoch and our politicised world do not only require strength and sophisticated armaments but they equally need diplomacy, planning, vision, strategy, coordination, perseverance and all rounded vigilance. Because of Shabia, EPRDF paid so much price, eventually will lose power No nation would have tolerated what Shabia is doing except EPRDF Led ETHiopia. Its leaders let Ethiopia bleed and huimulated by Shabia over and over. From the start, their love affair with Shabia was wrong. Yet, they refused to learn from their mistake. They save shabia from Key KOKEB Zemecha, they keep quiet when Shabia refused to let humanitarian aid for the people of Tigray, they let Shabia invade and occupy land for years, they stopped the army from marching and finishing Shabia (they save Shabia once again), they let Shabia to arm anybody and fight Ethiopian people in every corner of Ethiopia, they let people to be blown up by bomb in resultant, and bus, they let Shabia to arm terrorists and fight Ethiopia in the name of Islam, THEY LET RETRAINS TO LIVE UNDER THE WORST WAR LORD THEY EVER SEEN, THEY WERE BETTER OFF UNDER ETHIOPIAN REGIMES, at least they could travel between Ethiopia and Asmera, for trade, and social life. They still don't understand why Ethiopian people were fed up of EPRDF and elect anybody else who just opposes EPRDF. Unless, they say no more election, I wonder how they are going to win next time. When they lose, as they did in the past, they are going to blame Chauvinists, narrow nationalists, and crony capitalists, not their lousy policy. They don't get it; it is Ethiopian people who are going to vote for them not Shabia.

Hey This is the reason we applaud the decision of Mr. Lidetu and Dr. Beyene and others who continue fighting in modern and civilized way as a prominent politicians with out RUNAWAY ,BETRAY THE NATION taking back the movement back for moment. Gen Kemal 's decision , This is BETRAYAL of what he belived ,unable to address his and his fellow 's AGENDA efficiently by staying home where he belongs . What our government should do!
Our government should keep up the good work its doing for the economy and for the security of our country. It should keep the course steady. These are challenging and interesting times, not only for Ethiopia but for others too. The positive moments in Ethiopia are many. The negative seconds are few. Sure it is embarrassing and seems beyond the pale to see a decorated Ethiopian general running of all the places on earth to shabia. Let Essayas celebrate this minute. A minute, which wouldn't help him a second. As Aiga's editor have recommended, Ethiopia should redouble her efforts in the economical development realm. Shabia can be kept at bay through Ethiopia's might for a long time to come. I don't think either the desperados in Mogadishu could change the balance of power in the horn. Ethiopia should consult and work with the closely US in this matter. We shouldn't jump the ship in Mogadishu, it is not worth it. Keep cool!

Through this short email, I want to thank the two writers who responded to your email. I felt as if they read my heart and the hearts of Aiga people (in Irob where i was born and grew up, Zalambesa and Badime which i visited several times and talked to the inhabitants. They were telling me the same thing. Not more not less. I guess the feelings of Afars in Bure and majority Ethiopians is not different. Thank you for posting the above two commentaries and please, please convay such messages to the government of Ethiopia. we do not more want to hear other excuses except dealing with Shabia properly.

My name is Buzu from Vienna Austria, I support concerning the formation of "Shemgay" committee for the release of Kinijit leaders. This is very serious!!! The probable enemies of our country are now coming into reality and surrounding it. In order to mobilize all Ethiopians against the destabilizing forces, it is timely to realize the problems on the ground for the Government. It is a big moral obstacle for us non-politicians to see the people putted in prison by the government because of their political belief. I don't like also the tendency of impartiality concerning our enemies by the opposition supporters. On the other side I do understand them that since their leaders are prisoners of the Government, they are developing a feeling of hopelessness to cooperate the current leadership instead of choosing the other side. At the end of the day the country will face unpredictable consequences. Here, the Government is responsible to manage and solve the problem in the first place. If the Government releases CUD leaders, then we will have a chance to convince all Ethiopians to come together against of our enemies from any angle. I strongly support the effort to be made by "Shimigilina" to release the prisoners. It will be the very wise decision of the Government to accept the proposal. It will give us a good opportunity to support the Governments effort of all rounded development and go ahead to a peaceful transition of democratic development in our country.

I dont have a custom in commenting in many issues in Ethiopia since every body is well polarised to stay in power. This mainly is Sabia and Woyane, others these days are proxy either to Shabia or Woyane. When you come to Ethiopian oposition they are multiple faced and multiply polarized. This is the crisis in Ethiopia. I read your comment about Eritrea government towards Ethiopia. It looks interesting but has a devil in it. Ethiopian people have fought the Eth-Er war with full supoort to EPRDF. Believing the cause was right. Finally Badme is gone to the dismay of to all Ethiopians. Then people get a chance to vote, again to the dismay of all Ethiopians we have seen what happened. Although oppostions have their own share for the crisis by polarizing some things, principally EPRDF is resposible. EPRDF is never ready to give power to the elected governmet. I am not saying Shabia is democrat. Because Shabia is bad it doesnot make EPRDF/WOYANE any better. The difference is Woyane allowed an election but was never ready to share power, where as Shabia never allowed an election because they know the fact they will loose the same way their ex comrades (TPLF) lost. So horn of Africa will not be stable without the establishment of a true democracy. Had the last years election ended peacefully the stability of the horn was imminent. But now we have uncertain future with pro alqeda and pro independence like ONLF and also kinijit ( of AFD) which was pro unity. TPLF/ EPRDF thinks that the anti-terrorist allinace with USA will help to stay in power. But this strategy might end up catastrophic like the pro USA warloards lost the battle in Mogadishu. Dont you think so? The situation is more tha the discontent of Shabia. Now many Ethiopians are in discontent with all forces in the region basically Shabia and Woyane which used to be best friends.

I think the Ethiopian government approach to what Mr. Isayas's government activities is plausible. It is important to remember what Meles said during his press conference few weeks ago, "those who follow the wrong path will go down with the weight of their activities".

The best way to analyse the dilemma faced by the Ethiopian government is via a simple analogy. If you are a productive and hard working member of society and there exists a neighborhood drunkard. The drunkard is a menance in that everytime you go to work and come back from work, the drunkard contineously disturbs your peace via verbal and sometimes minor physical altercations. You ignore him because you have to go to work tomorrow and the fight isn't worth it. The drunkard on the other hand has no job to worry about and accordingly loses little if a conflict ensues. So you patiently accomidate the temper diatribes of the drunkard until his interference ACTUALLY interfers with your job. Then, you handled the drunkard. It will be the last time that drunkard will ever bother you. I will let you figure out who has a job to go to and who the drunkard is in the Ethiopian-Eritrean context.

I am not a politician I am not a party member of any sort. I am an Ethiopian who follows all events happening in Ethiopia and also in our problem child of Africa closely. The problem child is digging every ground to convince its own people in the ditch and military camps he is still at war in Ethiopia and keep them indefinite till somehow the truth surfaces to the top and then the future will be in the hands of the oppressed. As far as we Ethiopians are concerned, we should not be dragged into wodi Afeworki's childish tactics which at the end of the day will back fire to him. Let the dogs keep on barking and the caravan moves on!! Ethiopia should concentrate on the economic growth which is registering and keep the momentum. Isayas is living in a fantasy dream along with the fairies. Let him wake up and face the reality. Give him time. This doesn't mean Ethiopia should not stay vigilant and deal with him in a fashion that doesn't affect Ethiopian interest which is "Making Poverty History." as u have said it`s very irritating to see How shebia playing the game & Our Gov. handeling the whole issue Concerning shaebia.....This is what we all dont understand why is that PM meles wont`allow to open a satelite TV. to deal with shaebia. we are very much tierd of all those shaeibias propaganda. where is our Government?????? can`t they protect us ??? can`t they do something to tackel shaeibias propaganda & insult ???
