On the Question of Somalia : Why Ethiopia has to Intervene

Ethiopia is alone again on the War front.

Many believe that the West and Ethiopia will have had a common front in their fight against terrorism, but it looks that the West is backtracking on their stand on how to handle the UIC of Somalia. This is especially true for Britain and the US.

Ethiopia, with or without the support of the West has fought terrorism and will fight it in the future if she believes that the threat is real and dangerous for her survival .With the imminent danger she is confronted with in Somalia she should take action and take action fast on this terror group.

When Ethiopia said Alithad is a terror group and took action and destroyed their camp in Somalia in 93 and 96, and showed a video clip of other Nationalities she has killed in the camp most of the West took it lightly, until Al Qaida came in the picture and the West saw on how Somalia is used as a base for terrorists.

At present ,the issue of Somalia has also attracted and consuming the Ethiopian population. In Addis and other cities people are glued to their radio and watching National and international TV and following the development

On a local FM radio Mimi Sibhatu was hosting one of the liveliest debate some days ago on the Somalia crisis. Addis Ababa’s population were divided on this matter and whether we should intervene in the situation Somalia or not.

In my opinion Ethiopia should intervene and intervene quickly and decisively because the Islamic fundamentalist in the region is dangerous to both Christian and Islam . I believe they use Islam religion as a political weapon to lead a Nation imposing everything in the name of Islam and thus no opposition at all to what the state decides This UIC has also openly threatened the territorial integrity of Ethiopia by claiming Ogaden, when Ethiopia Somali’s the rightful owners should be the ones to decide.

The UIC is sponsored by Eritrea a Nation obsessed in destroying Ethiopia and anything Ethiopia ,at any cost ,even if it means supporting the ultimate terror group such as AlQaida

Some also want to perceive the situation in Somalia and the intervention of Ethiopia as a Christian/Muslim conflict , which it is not. Christian Ethiopia has an immense respect for Islam, because the Muslim we know in Ethiopia respect Christians and are living harmoniously with all, they share and cherish the value of Ethiopianess I believe they do not believe that one religion should be the political decisive power in a Nation. I believe that many Muslim share this secular views, as is the case with the political arrangement in all Muslim states like Egypt, Morocco, UAE Yemen, Turkey, Gulf states Indonesia etc. etc

At the cost of entering the Menelik Palace, some want us to believe this National issue is an irrelevant issue ,to which I strongly disagree.

Ethiopia is in a potentially dangerous situation. As usual she is Alone . She has to decide on her fate quickly.

As she has done so many times for centuries , I believe none else does it better
