Diaspora CUD, who claims to be blessed by its leaders in prison, who usually likes to rap itself in the Ethiopian flag, has pledged alliance with the OLF on Shabia sponsored conference. While Diaspora UEDF is making it clear that it has nothing to do with OLF led alliance on the bases that it compromises Ethiopian sovereignty. The tempo on the opposition side is increasing. Diaspora CUD –UEDF are hurling insults on each other like there is no tomorrow.

  The attempt to drag down democratization in Ethiopia is foiled, and the agreement on the constitution and supremacy of the rule of law is good news. Opposition parties should come out form the libration mentality and know that they have the duty of governing and giving alternative agenda to that of EPDF than dislodging the EPRDF from power. Democracy can not be built in an environment of enmity, and by discrediting the very system that allowed the parties to have a political life. They have to be honesty about the democratic space created. The said abuse by the ruling party is no excuse to derail the very democracy they profess they are building.

EPRDF should know its role as a party and as a government with clarity. As a government it should make sure the constitution is uphold and the playing field is fair to all political parties. The colliding of those of accepts the constitution and those who are bent on derailing the constitution should never be tolerated. Opposition parties can not have it both ways. The determinant nature of such unholy alliance is proved by the fact that exemplary 2005 election was marred the legal opposition were in alliance with the destructive forces in Diaspora. EPRDF as a party should play the whole nine yards a party. There is no democratic system where the ruling party plays with one hand tied to its back. To the contrary it benefits to the maximum the perks incumbent party within the bounds of the law.

But the system should not be held to the mercy of the parties. It is the civil society that gives life to a democratic system. It should create conducive environment where by the opposition should not only have breathing room but also a running field. Remove the hurdles and misunderstanding in the system where legal opposition is forced to form alliance with the destructive Diaspora politicians. At the same time censure it when it cries wolf, when it thinks its only job is removing the governing party.
Let democracy reign.
