How are citizens made?
What does it mean to be a citizen of a state that has written a new constitution, one that radically reordered social life? In that sense, who makes citizens and how are citizens made? Across the world, and particularly in Africa, a wave of new constitutions was written in the 1990s and 2000s and the Ethiopian constitution is one striking example...
(Aigaforum) June 4, 2012- Aigaforum has learned through a reliable source that Abebe Gelaw has echoed his last and only shout in front of world leaders. According to our reliable source the State Department has sent a note to all relevant organizations including the National Press Club and the Ethiopian government that the pseudo journalist will not be invited nor will he be allowed to appear in any US government briefings. According to our source a copy of the note was also sent to Abebe Gelaw.
Although the National Press is an independent body and is governed by its own rules and regulations, it will be in its best interest to heed the State Department's alert. Western journalists are taught to remain neutral and not mix their own bias in any reporting which Mr. Abebe clearly failed miserably.
Our source also told us that the State Department has been deeply disturbed by the extent of the extremism some of the Ethiopian Diaspora opposition groups are showing. Although the State Department is pushing PM Meles’ government to open up more of the democratic space, our source told us that the Obama administration is clearly appreciative of the Ethiopian government’s development agenda and its fight against terrorism in the Horn of Africa. Given the war against terrorism and Ethiopia's strong economic performance and given the incoherent and dysfunctional nature of the opposition groups in and outside Ethiopia, the US is increasing its support to PM Meles’ government. This is not the outcome the Diaspora opposition wanted when they helped one of their own, to bark like a mad dog in front of an important forum, but that is what they got!
Blind opposition and politics based on hate and envy is two recipes for a zero sum game end result. Diaspora opposition seems oblivious to this fact and never learns from past mistakes. For the sake of opposing the EPRDF government they conspire with the one-man regime in Eritrea, they conspire with religious fanatics and they even fail to play the game their western handlers want them to play! Who with the right mind, least a politician, will miss an opportunity to score points given a world forum except a person blinded by hate and envy? Ethiopia's success under the EPRDF government is causing the extremists to go wild. And we know the west does not like wild uncontrolled freaks to push their agenda. That is why after all the grooming and cajoling of Diaspora politics, in the name of democracy, the west is shutting the door!
