A simple feud in Benishangul-Gumuz Region caused the death of Nine people.
(Aigaforum) Oct 28, 2017 – What seemed to be a simple feud between two people has caused the death of eight Amhara people and one Benishangul-Gumuz person in Tashimi Zone Belew Wreda in Benishangul-Gumuz region. The killing happened on Oct 27, 2017.
The feud escalated to a revenge killing after the killing of the Benishangul-Gumuz person. The revenge killing has also resulted in the burning and destruction of over 80 houses. Our sources told us the killing has stopped now and the area is under full control of the military and security officials.
Our sources told us this conflict was not triggered by ethnic conflict. Given the current political environment elsewhere in Ethiopia especially Oromia region where Ethnic conflict is mushrooming east to west in the region, this killing was not triggered because of Ethnic conflict. It was unfortunate escalation of a personal conflict that started between two people.
Extremists and anti-peace elements will no doubt spin this news as another sign of Ethnic conflict that is breaking up the country’s unity. However, our source told us this conflict did not start due to animosity between the two brotherly people.
