Self
–Evident Untruth
Before the ink is dry on the wall, those who endorse “Call
for peace and Reconciliation”, starting with Ethiolion are backtracking.
Paltalk was in firestorm, labeling the initiators as “Woyanes.”
The snake oil sales men were forced to explain that the document was to
pressure the Ethiopian government and also show by having signatures of
all the civic organizations, and political originations and internet media,
the government is isolated and stands alone. The fact is the reality of
Ethiopia is more evident to Yamamato or
the west than a signature from forces who zig-zag from one day to another.
But let as see the self-evident untruth in the document.
Whereas, the current political situation in Ethiopia is deteriorating
and we are entering into a new phase where the political, social and economic
crisis is leading us to a point of no return.
The fact is Ethiopia had hopeful election in 2005. In self-fulfilling
prophesy the extreme Diaspora moved to taint the process and lead Ethiopia
into chaotic aftermath. The fact is Ethiopia has moved away from the doom
orchestrated by the extreme Diaspora. Ethiopia is preparing for the millennium
with good wishing Diaspora returning (20,000 Ethiopians form the US already
had bought air ticket)to share the hope of fellow citizens in Ethiopia.
The economy is in good standing with the government set to fight inflation.
The opposition in Ethiopia has joined parliament, responsibly negotiating
a working rules and procedures, election and media law.
Ethiopia has moved for the better except for those who want to drag her
back to black pit.
Whereas, we are inviting disaster unless urgent
actions are taken to solve this crisis, there is no doubt that there will
be no winner — we will all be losers.
There are winners and losers in politics. They thought they will keep
the country into standstill with no functioning parliament, a capital
city in chaos, a country in disarray. Those who go for a broke got nothing
more but lost even what was achieved prior to the election. More than
100 of their elected joined the parliament, Addis moved on with its caretaker
technocrats. Their organizational capacity, which was nil suffered more,
ever dividing and accusing with each other every time. Their demonstration
hovers between 20- to 100 people. Their call for civil disobedience got
no following, too pathetic even for them to tell their supporters what
come of it. They joined Anti-Ethiopia forces of Shabia, the now defunct
UIC of Somalia and AFD. Yes, there are losers and winners in politics.
The extreme opposition lost big time while the opposition with foresight
are reopening their office, adding membership and challenging the ruling
party and working for better Ethiopia.
Whereas, the only path out of the political
crisis in Ethiopia is the release of all prisoners of conscience and dialogue
with all peace-loving forces inside and outside of Ethiopia.
Whereas, the ruling party is not willing to take this path and has refused
to accept repeated calls for peace and negotiation.
Whereas, the political and civic groups, and major Ethiopian websites
listed below believe that the ruling party can play a big role and has
a huge responsibility to save the nation from catastrophe.
After shunning the only venue for meaningful dialogue, the parliament,
after working in tandem with anti-peace forces, the extreme Diaspora still
want to blackmail Ethiopia to have their way or else they will bring catastrophe
to Ethiopia.
The only way is through respect of the constitution, functions and independent
justice system, and functioning parliament.
It is through Ethiopians having pride in their diversity and strengthening
their Unity. It is through democratic forces working in expanding the
democratic space created by taking charge of the democratization process,
sponsoring event.
Those who initiated the document, if they have any good will, should stop
wishing Ethiopia doom and see what is achieved despite their effort to
deface the democratic process. Rule of law starts with accepting the constitution
all the time, not when the going gets though, respect of the judiciary
- ask for due process instead of contempt. Respect the parliament –but
fight to make it workable-which is the highest venue for negotiation,
respect the election board. Ethiapia has moved on, eying for the next
election. Let us learn form the last election to make the best of the
next.
