Update on Ato Daniel and Ato Nesanet and Remaining prisoners.

(Aigaforum July 31, 2007):-The court heard testimony from Dr Berhanu Nega, Hailu Shawel and other CUD leaders on Monday July 30. DR Berhanu and Hailu Shawel started their testimony telling the court that they were convicted and pardon by the government after they requested for clemency. Though supporters and even some of the leaders have been entertaining the idea of denial when it matters most they have come clean and the court has now a record of their admission of guilt and that they have asked for clemency. On Tuesday, July 31, 2007 the court heard from defense wittiness Prof Shibru, Prof Berhanu and a Ferneji who used to advise the election board of 2005. All witness testified the two defendants were civic activist mainly occupied with Shimglena but nothing more.

The remaining thirty something prisoners who were charged under the Hailu Shawel case and other similar cases will have their day in court tomorrow and sometime this week. As you recalled most of them have admitted guilt and asked for clemency. It is expected the court will decide on Bedru Adem and other charged under Hailu Shawel tomorrow (8/1/07). After the court passes the decision then the clemency process will proceed immediately.
