Update on Abducted Foreigners and Ethiopians from Afar, Ethiopia.

 


(Aigaforum, 03/14/07):- The five foreigners that were abducted and released in Asmara  yesterday are due in Addis Ababa  in the next day or so. They are in route to Djibouti. The whereabouts of the remaining Ethiopians is till unknown. The Ethiopian government has demanded the unconditional release of the hostages.

 

Mean time news coming from Berhale area, Afar region is the area is calm and business is as usual. Tourists are still coming. Talking to source in the area all tourist destinations in Northern Ethiopia is not in any way affected. This includes all historical tourist destinations in Tigray including Debre Damo and Geralata. The Tigray region is gearing up to set up a millennium council to help the facilitation of the thousands of tourist that will arrive to celebrate the millennium 2000 Ethiopia.

 

 

 

(Aigaforum, 03/13/07):-According to sources the Eritrean government after facing a stiff pressure and warning of a diplomatic isolation by the European countries has released the five foreigners who worked at the British Embassy in Addis Ababa.

However sources told us the Ethiopians fate is still unknown and have not been released as of today (03/13/07). News coming form the area also indicates some of the Ethiopians decided not to return home early on insisting that the foreigners were their guest and will accompany them until they are freed.

Today the foreigners are freed but the whereabouts of the Ethiopians is unclear
